Most individuals have spent many years building an email list and the worst thing that can happen is when these individuals un-subscribe from your list. One of the primary reasons this happens is that your subscribers aren't finding your emails interesting or even that your emails are not supplying any value for the subscribers. If you want to begin making more money from your list as well as wind up maintaining all your subscribers, we will be detailing how you can do that in this article.
The biggest thing you are going to need to do is to ensure your emails don't read like sales letters and you are providing your subscribers real value. This does not mean giving them free programs as well as softwares with each email, as you can merely provide them with valuable information that these people believe is valuable. This can be in the actual form of tips as well as suggestions to help them with whatever your list is about. Regardless of your area of interest you should be able to discover e books that you can provide to your subscribers once and a while and this will help you to offer value to your subscribers. This really is one of the greatest ways for you to maintain the subscribers you have.
Now allow me to explain how you will probably end up generating sales from your list. Whenever you send out emails that are of worth to your list, more individuals will end up opening your emails. Due to this, when you send an email to your list marketing a product, this email will also end up being opened by more individuals. At that time it just comes down to fundamental math, the more emails that get opened, the more sales and profits you are going to end up producing. And for people who just send out emails to your list promoting something in each and every email, you need to know that this is the perfect way to get individuals to un-subscribe.
If you send out a few emails everyday or even just one email a day you ought to get out of this habit. One of the worst things you can do is to constantly send out emails multiple times a day. I don't know about you but this is the last thing that I would want, my mail box being stuffed with sales letters. But you will find that individuals still do this and their lists suffer because of it.
To keep your list you really should only be sending out two or three emails each week. One thing you need to understand is that just because you are sending 2 or 3 emails a week, this doesn't mean that you should advertise something in every email, that should be limited to one a week. The remainder of the emails you send should not have any advertising in them and they should just be good quality information. This is the key to getting more of your emails open and the key to producing more money with less emails. This will also end up being the best way for you to make sure that your subscribers stay subscribers. And when you keep your current subscribers and keep getting new subscribers you will find that your list will keep growing.

The Web as a platform for the database system can offer innovative solutions to business problems of inter-and intra-company. Unfortunately, there are also disadvantages to this approach.
Advantage : -
* Flexibility :- Since programs and data are independent, programs should not be changed if different species are added or deleted data from the database, or when changes of physical memory.
* Rapid response to inquiries :- Since the data are integrated into a single database, complex queries can be processed much faster if the data were separate, non-integrated files. In many companies, better customer service means a faster response.
* Multiple Access :- Database allows data in a variety of ways (eg different key areas) and are often accessed using several programming languages (both 3GL and 4GL programs nonprocedural).
* The reduced training costs for users: Users often find it easier to learn these systems and training costs can be reduced. Similarly, the total time for processing applications to be shorter, thereby increasing user productivity.
* Less storage :-Theoretically, all occurrences of data elements to be stored only once, allowing the storage of redundant data. System developers and designers of databases often use data standardization to minimize data redundancy.
Reliability :- The Internet is a reliable means of communication and slow down when a request is made via the Internet, there is no real guarantee of delivery.
Safety :- Safety is a major concern for an organization that makes its database available on the Internet. User authentication and secure transmission of data is due to the large number of anonymous users may be important.
Cost :- the maintenance cost is very expensive.
Scalability :- Web application can be unpredictable and potentially make an enormous peak loads. This requires the development of an architecture of high-performance server that is highly scalable. To improve scalability, Web hosting farms were using two or more servers to the site itself launched. HTTP requests are usually distributed on each server in the farm in a round-robin load and therefore the site is sent to process additional requests. However, this can get status information for the complex.
Functionally limited HTML
Statelessness :- The statelessness of the Web environment management provides the connection to databases and the application requirements of user transactions more difficult to obtain additional information.
Performance :- In many parts of the central database to the web clients complex interpreted languages, so that they are slower than the traditional customer databases filled by native speakers
These days, online shopping is very common. Buying CDs and DVDs online really makes sense for a variety of reasons, including simple convenience. Most online stores are very secure and you dont need to worry about credit card theft with their secure systems. Others offer third party payment options which help to protect you as you spend money and make your purchases online.
Why Buying CDs and DVDs Online Is a Good Idea
Think about when you want to buy a certain CD at the store. You have to get to the music store first, which may or may not be out of your way. Even a nearby shop will take you 5-10 minutes to get to. Then you have to find the music youre looking for by searching through the bins of CDs . . . only to find that they dont have what youre looking for. Then its off to the next store. When you find the CD you want, you then have to stand in line to pay for it and finally, head home to listen to your new CD. Its a pain in the neck!
Compare that to sitting down in your home, pulling up a CD store online and searching for the CD you want, listening to a sample track or two and then, in just a couple of clicks, purchasing your CD. It arrives a few days later, at your door. Much easier, wouldnt you say? There are plenty of other advantages to buying CDs and DVDs online, too.
Time. Youll have to wait for the CD or DVD to be delivered to you, but you can be doing other things during that time, which isnt an option when youre standing in line at the local music emporium.
Searching. Online search boxes make it super easy to find exactly what youre looking for, even if you arent sure who the artist is, what the song title is and only remember a couple lines from the chorus. Just want to watch all the movies with Johnny Depp in them? Then search his name and youll have a huge selection to choose from!
Browsing. When you want to just check out a new band or movie, most online stores make it easy to listen to music clips from each album. You can also view previews of new movies online. You dont have to wait for someone else to finish using the headphones and theres no time limit, you can spend all day listening or watching clips and previews.
Gifts. If youre looking for the perfect gift for a friend or family member who doesnt live near you, buying online is the perfect choice. You can usually specify a different shipping address than billing address and even get your CDs or DVDs gift wrapped and with a card included. This makes those last minute shopping excursions far easier!
Availability. Your local stores are only open so late. What if you want to buy the latest DVDs at 3 am? Not a problem with online stores, theyre open 24-7. And, when local shops run out of the hottest music album, you can still get them online!
Buying CDs and DVDs online is a great way to go and many more people are choosing this method of purchasing over heading to the local shops. Its far more convenient and youll find that you are able to enjoy your shopping experience a lot more. Plus, what could be better than doing all your birthday shopping from your computer at 1 in the morning?
More than 120 million books sold and still counting. Translated into 38 languages. On The New York Times list of bestsellers for 235 weeks (Children's Series Books). A hugely successful movie franchise. What makes the Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer's vampire romances, such a hot seller?
The Times praised Twilight for depicting "perfectly the teenage feeling of sexual tension and alienation." The New York Times called it "a literary phenomenon".
Twilight has also attracted comparisons with the Harry Potter series, whose sales incidentally, it has eclipsed. Great literature it ain't, but undeniably, Twilight succeeded in striking a chord worldwide among young teens, especially girls.
About the author
tephenie Meyer lives in Arizona, USA. The first-time author and mother of three began writing a draft in 2003, based on her dream about a vampire's love for a young girl. The draft evolved into a full-fledged novel in three months and Stephenie's sister persuaded her to mail the manuscript to several literary agencies. By late 2003, Stephenie had a three-book publishing deal. The first novel, Twilight, hit the shelves in 2005. As the saying goes, the rest is history.
The four books in the romantic-fantasy genre are Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. The plots revolve around teenager Bella Swan who moves to her father's home in Forks, Washington. She is inexplicably drawn to the handsome Edward Cullen who she later learns is a 104-year-old member of a vampire family that subsists on animal, and not human, blood. The subsequent books deal with a love triangle, the couple's turbulent romance, their marriage and birth of a half-human, half-vampire child.
To date, The Twilight Saga has had four record-breaking releases since 2008, Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn (I). The Twilight DVD sold 3 million-plus units on its release in March 2009. Needless to add, the franchise's youthful cast, headed by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, became overnight stars.
For Twilight's teen following, a host of goodies are on offer:
Mattel's Barbie collectibles: A brown-haired, brown-eyed Barbie Twilight Bella doll, a melancholy Edward and Jacob Black, werewolf and Bella's close friend.
Twilight jewellery sets featuring the Cullen crest and individual pieces like Alice Cullen's choker necklace, Bella's charm bracelet and the Twilight Forever Stretch Bracelet.
Free online Twilight games: Twilight Quiz, Twilight Dress Up, Twilight Makeovers, Twilight Colouring, Twilight jigsaw puzzles, Vampire Maker and Twilight Kissing.
Twilight apparel: Tees/hoodies in black/white/grey featuring movie characters; movie replica clothes (e.g. Bella's party dress, blue jacket and denim leggings) and for the truly besotted, Twilight gold contact lenses!
Will the Twilight frenzy continue to the last movie? No prizes for guessing!
If you're really into reading, do yourself the favor of investing in a wireless reading device. Wireless readers are so much more than gadgets for reading eBooks. They have a variety of great features that make them well worth every penny you'll pay for one.
The biggest complaint about today's wireless readers is the price tag. But if you think about it, they actually present a remarkable value. You can purchase and download eBooks at a significantly cheaper price than you'd pay for a regular book. You can also read generous sample chapters before you decide to buy. How many books do you own that looked interesting, but once you got around to reading them, proved to dull to even bother with?
You'll also save on the cost of driving to the bookstore to purchase books with a wireless reader. It takes just a minute or so to download an eBook to a wireless reading device, so you'll save time, too. The huge variety of free eBooks available for download today is another way you can save with a wireless reader. There are literally tens of thousands of free books available for download, and the number is growing all the time.
With a wireless reader, you carry all of your reading material with you in a very lightweight, small device. You can take it anywhere and it will work for days at a time on one battery charge.
You don't have to bother lugging around books or trying to manage a newspaper on a plane when you own a wireless reading device. You can go to work or to class without breaking your back carrying books and more books. Wireless readers are very eco-friendly, too, as they make books, magazines and newspapers available without the need for paper.
As if all these benefits weren't enough, wireless reading devices also allow you to browse the Internet without fees. You don't need to find a hotspot or setup a wireless network, either, to browse the web with a wireless reader.
One other feature to consider is the ability to transfer plain text files and mp3s to your wireless reading device. You can listen to your favorite music with a wireless reader, and even transfer photos from your computer.
Given all the time and money-saving features available with today's wireless reading devices, they're well worth a few hundred dollars for many people. It's hard to imagine a more convenient way to have access to books, news, the Internet, music and more.
If you've been holding out waiting for the price of wireless readers to drop, stop wasting time and money and make your purchase. How much have you spent on books and newspapers in the past few months you've been waiting for the price of wireless readers to come down? How much more will you spend in the future by waiting to "save money" on a device that's already a great value?
Friends and parents and teachers some time or other will tell you the names of some books that you must read before you die.
You may ask what is in a book. What is in a classic novel? Well! Particularization of the specifics of a book, current or classic may be hard but one thing is sure that when a serious book reader enjoys reading a good book, he/she, for sure derives a typical pleasure from recommending the same to friends, students and prodigies
Although The Holy Bible remains the most read book of all times, some works of fiction and non fiction do deserve a mention here for those who have not already read these all time greats.

James Joyce Try something simpler and start with The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. first and then move on to Ulysses or Finnegans Wake
Toni Morrison Read everything, especially being sure to cover The Bluest Eye, Sula, Tar Baby, and Song of Solomon.
Ayn Rand An intelligent and philosophical author wrote thought provoking fiction on altruism. Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, and Night of January 16th give superb reading pleasure to those of philosophic frame. Ayn Rand remains unparallel by any other author save perhaps by Camus and Jean Paul Satre.
Ernest (Papa) Hemingway He wrote in realistic and to the point style. All his books are worth reading especially Old Man and the Sea, The Sun Also Rises and A Moveable Feast, as well as the early stories collected in our time. If you prefer Hemingways more popular themes of war, for example, read A Farewell to Arms, for starters.
Thomas Hardy if you find old world tragic plots charming. Tess of the Dubervilles, Mayor of Casterbridge and The Return of the Native will take you back in the time.
Jane Austen for great readings in 19th century romantic stories, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma and Persuasion depict romance woven in excellent plots.

John Irving A most accessible and engaging writer, Irving brings us such poignant works as Hotel New Hampshire and the World According to Garp and such provocative novels as A Prayer for Owen Meany.
John Updike for a contemporary but full writing style, Updike will delight you with his brilliance and accessibility to his brilliance. Read about the ex-basketball star, following him through the decades of his life in the series of Rabbit titles, or get steamy with Couples, or have a tryst with mysticism in The Centaur.
James Mitchner for in depth analysis on the topics he write about. The Source, Chesapeake and The Covenant make excellent reading about Jews, Chesapeake Bay and South Africa respectively.

If you did your growing in the 80s, you are probably familiar with the strange little blue creatures that live in mushroom houses and go from adventure to adventure.
It may come as a shock to you, but the real name of that illustrious family is les Schtroumpfs (they are not French, however, but Belgian). Smurfs is an English adaptation of their Flemish name, de Smurfen.
The sympathique (French for likeable or charming) little creatures made their first public appearance on 23 October 1958. Not as main characters, though. Their mentor, the Belgian cartoonist Peyo (full name Pierre Culliford), introduced les Schtroumpfs to Earthlings via the Spirou magazine. In that first encounter, les Schtroumpfs played supporting roles to the main protagonists, Johan et Pirlouit. But, as it sometimes happens in life, the sidekicks became so popular that they got their own comic book.
The success of the little blue guys became planetary in the 80's due to the TV cartoons, produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and aired on NBC from 1981 to 1989.
Their name changes depending on the country. They are the Smurfs, die Schlümpfe, los Pitufos, i Puffi, de Smurfen, les Schtroumpfs... However, their characteristic silhouette is recognised by older audiences at a first glance in practically every corner of the world.
And now, thanks to the 3D move released in the USA at the end of July 2011, the little blue creatures are being re-introduced to a whole new generation of kids.
The film, simply called The Smurfs, is a hybrid of animation and live action, with the little blue creatures freely interacting with humans. The movie centres on five Smurfs (Clumsy, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Grouchy, Brainy and Gutsy), who find themselves in New York City when they try to flee their arch enemy, the evil wizard Gargamel. A sequel of the movie is planned for 2013.
The film is not to everybody's taste. To fully enjoy it, you have to like cute stuff. It also helps if you happen to be a kid.
Still, the tried-and-tested formula of a layer of fun + a layer of magic + a lot of family entertainment produced a huge success at box offices worldwide. The film has been the number one in the international marketplace for eight consecutive weeks.
Naturally, the commercial success of the Smurfs comic books and motion pictures brought about the birth of an enormous merchandising empire in the form of the Smurf miniatures, models, games, toys, and, as the latest, applications for the iPhone, iPad and Android platforms.
Habitat: Smurfs live in an impossible-to-find little village, in mushroom-like houses.
Population: About 100, mostly males (there are only three girls).
General aspect: Smurfs are as similar to each other as eggs are. They are very short (about three apples high) and have blue skin.
Life expectancy: Smurf are renowned for their longevity. Papa Smurf is well over 500 years old and (naturally) considerably younger than Grandpa Smurf.
Language: Smurfs speak whatever language they are translated into (about every known language on the planet Earth). They use the word Smurf (or a local equivalent) a lot, to replace just about any noun or verb.
Fashion trends: They tend to wear a white hat and white trousers, with a hole that accommodates the tail.
Staple food: Smurfberries (a kind of berry) and sarsaparilla leaves. Plus cakes. And just about anything else (especially Greedy Smurf).

Any movie that takes the form of a stand-up comedy special is going to have a certain pattern imposed on it. The successful annual comedy tour that's capped off by a singular performance in front of a sold out crowd in a world-class venue is a pattern that was pioneered by the likes of George Carlin and Louis CK in a series of performances dating back to the 1980s. As a genre, the stand-up comedy movie has actually developed less than almost any other form. It would be perhaps too easy to assume that this is because the style achieved perfection as far back as 1990, but it is most likely a result of the restrictions imposed on the genre by its very material. After all, there are only so many ways to dress and light a stage, as there are only so many ways to introduce a comedian. Most of the really original ideas for presentation were hit upon by the time Robin Williams released "Live at the Met."
This restricting form, and lack of flexibility, hasn't noticeably damaged the genre. The comedy emphasis, far more so than in any other genre, has always been on the content and the delivery unique to that one performer. Essentially, the window dressing doesn't have to change, as the material is in constant flux, and fresh is the name of the game.
In "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain," the title character tries something new. For almost the first time in decades, a successful comedian has tinkered with the basic form of the stand-up movie. Where in the past, a comedian would either come right out on stage after only a brief introduction, or at most after a short skit, fully half of "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" consists of the opening skit. Either the concept of "opening comedy skit" has been stretched out to cover far more of the film's runtime than ever before, or else Kevin Hart has broken with convention and is now pursuing something entirely new in the genre. It is through this sort of experiment that progress is always made in the arts, which makes "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" especially interesting as a specimen.
The first part of "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" features only a hint of the stand-up to come, featuring instead a retrospective on Hart's fan base and a somewhat drawn-out short story in film that stars Hart, seven other actors who are identified as Plastic Cup Boyz,-the meaning of which is clear on viewing-and a number of actresses who are identified in the credits as either Dark Skin Sister or Light Skin Sister. The opening segment of the movie seems heavily influenced by Hart's extensive work in television, with a special emphasis on storytelling and narrative development that's totally unexpected in a comedy show.
The second part of "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" is by far the more conventional of the two. This section, which spans the last thirty minutes of the show, is an absolutely straightforward stand-up routine. Every element is there, from the oddly dressed, brightly lit background to the equally oddly dressed performer himself, this time wearing what looks like a shiny black jumpsuit. Hart's jokes-as is the case for any comedian-are thoroughly spoiled by repetition, so they will be left to the viewer to judge.
It is worth noting that the actual stand-up part of the movie was filmed at a live performance in front of a packed house at Madison Square Garden. For a comedian to pack this venue to the rafters, as Hart has clearly done here, has traditionally been the crown jewel in the career of a stand-up comedian. Hart seems as comfortable on the stage as another man might be in his own living room; a reflection, perhaps, of Hart's more than twenty years in the business and the ease that comes with it.
The stage is well lit and wired for sound, which eliminates distracting technical considerations for the second half of the film. The first part is the more complex, from a technical standpoint, and it is carried off with the skill that's to be expected from a team of experienced filmmakers such as the ones Hart has surrounded himself with.
Experiments are always risky, and those who experiment with their very bread and butter are to be congratulated for bravely showing the way forward for younger filmmakers. "Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain" has the distinction of breathing new life into an old and established genre. It isn't possible to predict whether this is going to be a footnote to the stand-up form, or the start of something entirely new. Either way, it bears watching.
Optimus Prime costumes are part of a bigger Transformers culture that stems from the movies, books and action figures. Since Optimus Prime is seen as the hero of the Transformers, this is one costume that people of all ages enjoy wearing. If you want to wear an Optimus Prime costume, here are some hints to help you find one or make your own.
It is both fun and very challenging to make your own Optimus Prime costume. Unlike a lot of other costumes, this one has lots of props and other three dimensional elements because Optimus Prime is a robot whose entire body is made up primarily of gadgets and tools and weapons. That's why, for your costume, you'll need things like foam core, cardboard, cans, tubing, piping and anything else that you can paint and mold into the different pieces of Optimus Prime's arsenal. You need to start yourself off with a really good illustration or even one of his action figures so that you will know exactly which elements you need to build into your costume. You'll want to allow yourself a good window to build your costume because even though it is very satisfying it is also very complex.
Any person, regardless of gender or age, can wear an Optimus Prime costume. It's true that, originally, the Transformers is a franchise that was originally aimed at children but a lot of adults like the series as well. For one thing, the Transformers have been around for such a long time that people who started playing with the toys as children are now all grown up. It's also lots of fun to join your kids in dressing up for parties. This means that there are all sorts of adult sized Optimus Prime costumes as well as child sized costumes to choose from. After all, this is a character who is drawn and designed to be large and powerful so lots of grownups have fun playing the role. A big Optimus Prime can be very impressive to look at, particularly if it is the 3D costume that has all sorts of gadgets built into it.
Perhaps the most impressive quality of Optimus Prime is his ability to turn into a truck. In some of the earlier versions, he has the ability to turn into a variety of animals. This is related to the Transformers concept because obviously these are robots who have the power to transform themselves into other things.
It is hard to incorporate this idea into your costume but some of the more innovative costume designers are able to do it. Lots of Optimus Prime costumes simply shoe a large truck on the front of the character's chest and sometimes it will have a variety of special effects included like light and sound. You can find costumes that will incorporate this element, you need to be creative and think of ways to make it your own. In the world of Optimus Prime costumes there is a lot of variety. You can find pretty much everything from cheap costumes that are only meant to be worn once or twice to high quality replica costumes of the characters you've seen in the Transformers movies. It doesn't matter what kind of budget you are on, dressing up like Optimus Prime is a great chance to pretend you are one of the world's leading heroes.
In the article "US exchange websites attacked" by The Financial Times, it's reported that the public websites of some securities exchanges in the US experienced outages after facing some cyber attacks; however, their trading systems were unaffected. Nasdaq OMX, BATS Trading and the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) were targeted but no attempts to extract data were reported. According to Nasdaq, the disruption was more of "an attempt to block access", instead of retrieving information. BATS and CBOE reported the same thing. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on the other hand didn't experience any network outage. Due to this incident, US lawmakers advised them to "bolster their defences and reporting of attacks. The Securities and Exchange Commission also issued guidance that companies should report cybercrime incidents in their financial reports.
Just like the securities exchanges' encounters of cyber attacks, businesses are also concerned with the security of their own website and network. Oftentimes, the problem comes internally. The management doesn't know what the employees are doing online during working hours, how they spend their time online, or which non-work-related sites they visit. This doesn't only affect the employees' productivity, but alsoposes a risk to the company's network security.

Every woman needs a good chick flick to stir up a few tears now and then. Even every guy needs to experience a good chick flick that gets him choked up. Sure, he'll be looking around the room to make sure no one is looking, but chances are a chick flick is really good if it makes a man cry. However, what defines a chick flick? Most people define it as a sappy love story that women will love and men will hate. Sometimes they make good date movies depending on the content and at other times the men hide in another room because they can't stand all of the romantic talk and the "guy wants girl, girl shuns guy, guy aches for her, guy tries to woo her, girl still ignores him, girl finally realizes he's the one, guy gets girl, and all is well." Well, that is a general story line, but some feel that all chick flicks are the same. The thing is, that's not true. Let's look at 10 that have been rated as the top 10 chick flicks that will make you cry:
1.Gone with the Wind - Of course this one is going to be number one. Everyone is aware of this timeless classic of total girl power and love.
2.Beaches - This one really takes one for a loop. Barbara Hershey and Bette Midler make everyone want to call up their best friend just to tell them they love them. The storyline is compelling, the tale of two friends allows the viewer to relate to the characters, and the commitment is just overwhelming. The end gives you Goosebumps.
3.Fried Green Tomatoes - This one is not a sappy love story at all, but another movie about what constitutes true friendships. There apparently is something about a woman and her best friend. The story tells of two young friends and their trials as Cathy Bates makes a new friend in the present.
4.Steel Magnolias - Everyone is aware of Steel Magnolias because it was one of the greatest roles Julia Roberts ever took on. It does contain a little bit of a love story, but it is about friends, family, and their love for each other and how they will stand for each other. Of course, the ending when Julia Roberts' character dies, the viewer is stricken with tears.
5.When Harry Met Sally- Now this one is a romantic comedy that will bring tears to your eyes. See, the sappy love story didn't make it until number 5, so not all chick flicks are "guy gets the girl" movies. This movie is about friends of the opposite sex realizing love exists.
6.The Women- Here is another female bonding movie that shows friendship at its finest with a circle of friends supporting each other.
7.Grey Gardens- This chick flick gives a strange look into a very strange and very intense relationship between a mother and her daughter.
8.Sabrina- Now this is a "girl wants the guy" movie and even has Sabrina attempting suicide because she wants his love so bad.
9.The Valley of the Dolls - This movie has you captivated from the beginning. Patty Duke, Sharon Tate, and Barbara Parkins takes you on a journey of drugs, death, disease, and so much more.
10.Thelma and Louise - Of course this one can't be left out with its tale of true female friendship. They love each other, protect each other, and they even die together.
It is not recommended that all of these movies be watched back-to-back. If they are, a special trip to the store may result in the purchase of a value pack of tissues to make it through. Whether you are into "girl power," love stories, or true friendship, the top 10 movies has all of that for you.
Rating: PG-13 (crude and suggestive content, language and male rear nudity)
Length: 101 min
Release Date: July 12, 2013
Directed by: Dennis Dugan
Stars: 3 out of 5
"Grown Ups 2" is the long-awaited follow-up to the hit 2010 buddy comedy film "Grown Ups." Both films were directed by Dennis Dugan and written by Fred Wolf and Adam Sandler. Like the other movies Adam Sandler has written, he has a starring role in both films, but he does not overshadow the roles played by Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade, who all share the spotlight effortlessly. The cast's chemistry is fantastic, and their roles as childhood friends are very believable. It's easy to forget you're watching a movie when you watch this dream team of comedians interacting with each other.
Adam Sandler plays Lenny Feder, a rich Hollywood talent agent who has three spoiled children with fashion designer Roxanne Chase. Eric Lamonsoff, played by Kevin James, has a wife named Sally and two children named Donna and Bean. Eric Lamonsoff, in an attempt to be seen as successful by his childhood friends, claims to be the co-owner of a company that manufactures lawn furniture. Kurt McKenzie, played by comedy genius Chris Rock, is a father who stays at home with the children while his wife Deanne, played by Maya Rudolph, is the family's primary source of income. Kurt and Deanne McKenzie are expecting a third child, and Deanne's mother still lives with the family. Rob Schneider plays Rob Hilliard, who has three very unusual daughters from three very unusual marriages, and his current wife, Gloria, is several decades older than he is. Marcus Higgins, played by David Spade, is the only one without children and constantly gets harassed by his friends for being a womanizing slacker.
In "Grown Ups 2," Lenny Feder decides that he wants to relocate his entire family so they can live in his hometown with his childhood friends and their families. However, the five childhood friends are not expecting the surprise that awaits them when they reunite in their hometown. Some of their old enemies have never left at all. Men who were bullies when the misfit friends were in school, are still bullies, but in more creative, humiliating ways, and their kids are just as troublesome as their parents. History repeats itself as the friends' kids have to contend with the bullies' kids to survive high school unscathed.
Old bully drama isn't all that awaits the five friends. Girls from their childhoods who have since become women resurface in the friends' lives, rekindling old crushes that infuriate their wives. However, as the friends settle in and get used to their hometown again, it turns out that not everything is as it seems. Sometimes, it's impossible to get away from the drama. Between wild encounters with drunken police officers on skis, hilarious party crashes and insane school bus drivers, the five friends learn that craziness will follow them wherever they go.
"Grown Ups" was wildly successful all over the world and went on to become Adam Sandler's most successful movie in his long career. Adam Sandler has high hopes for "Grown Ups 2" as well. Most of Adam Sandler's movies had closure, which makes it difficult to come up with a sequel, but the premise of "Grown Ups" left plenty of room for another film. The cast had fantastic chemistry, and the characters were surprisingly funny and rich for a rather typical set of characters in a buddy comedy film. In a recent interview, Chris Rock said that one of the reasons the film was so funny was because every actor was in direct competition with the rest of the cast to be the funniest in the film. Of course, it was a friendly, playful competition that just made all of them even funnier. When Adam Sandler called the five actors and asked them if they wanted to reprise their roles, they were enthusiastic from the start.
It was a brilliant move on Adam Sandler's part to stage their reunion in their hometown. Most people have nostalgic feelings about their childhood but few get to go back to the town they grew up in to relive it through their own children. It's a fantasy many people have, even if it never leaves their imagination. Adam Sandler takes those thoughts and runs with them. Few films manage to capture the way people feel about their childhood but "Grown Ups 2" does just that and more, delivering a heartfelt comedy that gives the first film a run for its money.

The hit summer film "R.I.P.D." stars Jeff Bridges ("The Big Lebowski") and Ryan Reynolds ("The Proposal"), but putting those two actors together wasn't as easy as some fans might think. "R.I.P.D" tells the story of a man named Nick (Reynolds), who becomes the member of a ghost police department after being gunned down on the job. Bridges portrays Ray, the man tasked with helping Nick understand how the force works. The two men, who appear to others as a gorgeous blond woman and an older Asian man, must fight nefarious spirits while saving the world.
Bridges was never the first choice for Ray, and early reports indicated that a comedian would take on the role. Zach Galifianakis originally signed on for the role of Ray, but a delay in filming led to the actor dropping out of the film. Galifianakis had already agreed to film "The Hangover Part III," and when the studio pushed back the start date of "R.I.P.D.," he had to leave the film. Some fans might also be surprised to learn that Jodie Foster ("Panic Room") also had a role in the film, but after she left the production, Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds") joined the cast.
Recasting the role of Ray with Bridges was a smart move, because he has delightful chemistry with Reynolds. Many people were a little surprised when the studio announced its casting, because the two actors share little in common. Reynolds is best known for his comedic roles, and while Bridges has done a few comedic roles, he's better known for his dramatic talents.
Canadian actor Reynolds got his start on several television shows in his home country. Though he appeared in a handful of American productions, he got his big break with a starring role in "National Lampoon's Van Wilder." The film starred Reynolds as Van Wilder, a man who seems happier stuck in college than living life in the real world. Only after forming some new friendships and meeting the right woman does he realize that he's ready to leave college behind.
Reynolds followed up that performance with roles in other comedies, including "Waiting...," "Adventureland," and "The Proposal." He also showed that he had a dramatic side with roles in films such as "Buried" and "Safe House." The actor also took on the iconic character in "Green Lantern," but the film grossed less than $120 million at the box office on its $100 million budget. Though the studio hoped it would relaunch the DC Comics character, its poor performance stopped the studio's plans for a sequel.
Though a strong actor, Reynolds is sometimes better known for his relationships offscreen. He dated singer Alanis Morissette for more than five years, but despite a long engagement, they ended their relationship. He later dated and married actress Scarlett Johansson ("The Avengers"). After their divorce, he started dating actress Blake Lively ("Gossip Girl"), whom he met on the set of "Green Lantern" and later married. The two mentioned in interviews that they hoped to work together again in the future.
Bridges has a long career that dates back to 1950, when he landed a role as an infant. Though he acted in a handful of films and television shows as a child and teen, it wasn't until the late 1960s that he decided to really focus on his career. At the age of just twenty-two, he earned an Academy Award nomination for his film "The Last Picture Show." Bridges also received Oscar nominations for his work in "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot," "Starman," "The Contender," and "True Grit." He won his first Academy Award in 2009 for "Crazy Heart," which also gave him the chance to show his musical side. The actor released two albums, and the second made it to number twenty-five on the charts.
Like Reynolds, Bridges has a history of success in comic-book films and sci-fi films. He played the main villain in "Iron Man," and he played the lead in the 1980s film "Tron" before returning for the sequel, "Tron: Legacy." Bridges also has the same love of comedy that Reynolds has. One of his best-known roles was as the Dude in "The Big Lebowski." The film launched an annual festival, Entertainment Weekly named his character one of the best characters in film history, and the Belgian Film Critics Association nominated the film for its Grand Prix award.
When the studio announced that Reynolds and Bridges would headline its film "R.I.P.D.," some wondered if these two actors could pull off a dark and gritty film that walks the line between sci-fi and horror. Given each actor's history of success, this film might be the surprise hit of the summer.
If you access the Internet, you certainly need anti-virus software. It does not matter whether you do not use a computer. Whatever you use to get on line you must have anti-virus software. Although there are hundreds of malicious idiots producing viruses to attack those who access the Internet from a computer, there is an growing number who are targeting mobile phone users too.
It is harder to clear viruses from your mobile phone as well, because there are less vendors for the anti-virus software and mobile phone users are often less technologically knowledgeable than computer users, although the technique of clearing the virus is fairly analogous.
Let's just use the example of using computers to go on line. If you go on line, your ant-virus software is your most important piece of software. It does not matter what you use the Internet for - transferring data back to base or reading emails from friends - you are subject to attack.
For example, if you use the Internet only to communicate with your head office, a hacker could try to piggy-back your connection to gain admittance to the mainframe at head office and perhaps access financial or other personal data and if you just send to and receive emails from your friends and family, you are open to assault from malevolent fools around the world.
If you use webmail such as that provided by Yahoo, Hotmail and MSN to name only the most popular, you will be protected from the most obvious attacks, but still not safe. If you obtain your email via an email client such as Outlook or Outlook Express, then you do not even have that small amount of security.
If you do not use email, but only surf the Internet for study or whatever, you are still not safe, because some websites and loaded with viruses, trojans and worms, waiting to unload them onto unsuspecting visitors.
Therefore, whatever reason you surf the Internet for, you could do with some type of security. Luckily, anti-virus software for personal use is low-cost and can even be free. Business users will usually get tax relief on their purchases.
However, be careful with the free anti-virus software, because not all of it is effectual enough. The exceptions that spring readily to mind are Avira and AVG. These are exceptional products and have rightly achieved worldwide acclaim. Just Google the two names to get the download address.
The anti-virus software that costs something (typically $25-$50 per annum) invariably offer one to two months free examination before you buy and a reduction in price, if you pay for more than one year at a time. Names that fall into this class are Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton and Nod.
Once you have selected your software, the subsequent steps are the same for free and paid software. First install it and then configure it. If you are not certain how to do that do not be concerned, the default settings are fine for the overwhelming majority of users. The only choice you will get that it is vital you make correctly is to allow automatic updates.
New viruses are being exposed or fixed every day and for your anti-virus software to be effectual, you must permit it to update itself whenever it wishes to.
Islam is a misunderstood and often vilified religion here in the west. One of the most common ways of attacking the religion is by taking quotes from the Qur'an, the primary source of religious knowledge for Muslims, and trying to prove from a single verse that the entire religion is violent or hateful. Unfortunately, when a person who wants to attack Islam pulls a random verse from the Qur'an as "proof," they do not take into account the context that the verse was given in, or the verses that come before and after it. Thus, they are often successful in making a benign verse seem barbaric and terrifying.
So what exactly is the Qur'an? Who wrote it? What does it teach? These are very common questions and I will attempt to give a brief overview of the Qur'an with the hope of being able to delve into further details at a later date...watch for those articles.
The word Qur'an is an Arabic word that means "recitation" or "something to be recited." It is only in its pure form if it is in the Arabic language, any other language is only a translation of the meaning of the Qur'an, but not Qur'an itself. There is only one version of the Qur'an in the world, every single Qur'an from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia to the United States is exactly the same in the Arabic text, however, different word choices may have been used in the translation of that text. This is very different than the Bible which has the King James version, the Catholic version which include the Apocrypha, the Revised Standard Version which deletes such important verses as John 3:16 because it is an interpolation that was added hundreds of years after the Bible was written, and so on. The Qur'an has never had a single letter of the original Arabic changed, so it is still in its pure form, the only religious text in the world that can honestly make that claim.
The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) began to receive the revelations of the Qur'an when he was 40 years old. Muslims believe that the Qur'an is the literal word of God, as taught to the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by the angel Gabriel, the angel of revelation. Muslims do not believe that it was written by a man, it is the actual word of God spoken directly to the prophet via Gabriel. Muhammad (PBUH) was an illiterate man who was not known for poetry or for having read any other religious scriptures. He was, however, well known for his honesty and truthfulness even before the first revelation was ever received, and was nicknamed "al-Amin" or "The Trustworthy." He was always very religious and concerned about the Paganism that ruled Arabia in his time.
During the month of Ramadan in the year 610 CE, Muhammad (PBUH) had retreated to a cave outside of Mecca for meditation and prayer. It was here that the angel Gabriel first descended from Heaven and delivered the first Qur'anic verses, "Recite! In the name of your Lord who has created (all that exists)." The prophet later said that it felt as though he were being squeezed very hard so that he could hardly breathe. The word "Iqra" in Arabic can mean either "read" or "recite." Muhammad (PBUH) replied to the angel that he could not read. The angel squeezed him harder and told him "Iqra!" and the first lines of Qur'an issued forth from the mouth of Muhammad (PBUH).
The Qur'an was revealed over a period of 23 years before it was completed. To fully understand the Qur'an it is important to know Islamic history since many of the verses were given in respect to various situations that the Muslims were faced with at a particular time. For instance, one of the most often maliciously misquoted verses in the west is from Surat at-Tauba, Ch. 9:10 which says, "Then when the sacred months have passed, then kill the non-Muslims wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and lie in wait for them in each and every ambush. But if they repent and perform the prayer and pay charity, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful."
If you only read this one verse without taking the context of it, you will think Islam is a barbaric religion which commands Muslims to fight non-Muslims at all times. But, if you go back to the beginning of the chapter to verse 1, you will see that Allah is talking about fighting the Meccans who unilaterally broke the peace treaty that was in place with the Muslims. Therefore, because they broke the peace treaty, they will be given four months to travel the land freely and then they should expect that there will be a war with the Muslims. The next verse is amazing, it continues to say, "And if any of the non-Muslims seek your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the Word of Allah, and then escort him to where he can be secure."
The verse is speaking about war, and a specific war at that. I believe that the most generous military general in the world today might say that if an enemy soldier in the battle field wants to surrender then let him go, but can you imagine any general today that would actually escort the enemy to safety? That is very noble indeed. So, I think you can see by this example how easy it is for someone, who is looking for something to support their negative assumptions, to misquote or quote out of context to prove their point. And surely this is true for any religious text, and possibly any text at all.
The Qur'an is different than the Bible or Torah when you read it. Rather than being written in the third person narrative, it is all the literal word of God being revealed directly to the reader. When you read the Qur'an it feels as though God is speaking directly to you, it is extremely powerful. It is broken up into "Suras" which is roughly "chapter," and "Ayas" which is roughly verse. The word Aya in Arabic actually means "sign", so the Qur'an is a book of signs for mankind.
Another major difference between the Qur'an and any other book is that it is not arranged in chronological order. Rather, it is basically arranged with the longer verses in the beginning and the shorter verses in the end, and this is not the order that they were revealed. Each year in Ramadan the angel Gabriel would have the prophet recite what had been revealed of the Qur'an so far. The year the prophet died Gabriel had the prophet recite the entire Qur'an twice and in the order that we find it today.
The society of Pre-Islamic Arabia was an oral one, poetry was to those people what television and movies are to the west today. A kingdom could be toppled by a verse, a leader overthrown. We see our media today is capable of the same things, we have in very recent times seen war proclaimed due to false statements made by influential (presidential) people to the media. Poetry had the same effect for the Arabs that the media has for us today. Thus, the Arabs were trained from early childhood to have great memorization skills, memorizing the tribal histories, poetry and folklore. It was easy for the early Muslims to memorize the entire Qur'an as it was revealed. To this day there are millions of Muslims around the world that have memorized the entire book, most of whom completed memorizing it by about age 10.
The Qur'an was written down as it was revealed by several of the companions of the prophet. They would write on whatever they could find, sometimes it was on stones and other times on pieces of leather. It was not collaborated into a book form until immediately after the prophet passed away. Then the first caliph, Abu Bakr, ordered all of the parchments to be collected and had a committee, headed by Zaid ibn Thatbit, read through all of the parchments with those who had memorized the Qur'an until they were satisfied that they had not missed any verses or written them down wrong. Then, the committee wrote down the Qur'an in one book.
The Arabs of that time were experts in poetry; they knew every type of prose and rhythm. The Qur'an was unlike any poem they had ever heard before, that is because it is not poetry, it is the word of God. The way that Ayas were put together and the vocabulary and rhythms used were something shocking to those Arabs; they were professionals in language and yet this book was far superior to anything a human had ever written. And, it was rhythmical and rhyming. To this day the Qur'an is used as the standard for grammar and linguistics; it is far above anything that has ever been written before or since. In fact, the Qur'an challenges any of those professional poets to create even one verse similar to the Qur'an, and in that they will be able to prove that it is not from God. But, though many tried, all were extremely unsuccessful. The Qur'an stands alone as an example of literary perfection.
The Qur'an is very explicit when it comes to describing Heaven and Hell. It often reminds the reader to remember God, do righteous good deeds and forbid evil, so that they may be recompensed in the next life. It calls for people to lead lives of high morality, to not steal, drink alcohol, have sex outside of marriage, murder, cheat, lie, oppress others or worship anything besides God. It calls for man to love for his brother the same that he loves for himself. It calls man to worship God and to think of God in each and every act, from eating to sleeping and from travel to work, you should always be thinking of God. It tells mankind, over and over, to enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil.
The Qur'an is a book of guidance for all of mankind. It is a complete manual for the life of a human being. It covers everything including politics, society, family life, warfare, welfare, commerce, worship, hygiene and much more. It also has many scientific miracles in it that are just being realized today, such as detailed embryology, the water cycle, geology, anthropology and much more. I will be doing a series of articles in the future on science and the Qur'an, God willing, please watch for those articles.
So, the Qur'an is often misunderstood and misquoted. I recommend that if you are seeking the truth of the life of this world and the hereafter, that you read the Qur'an. You can receive a free copy of the Qur'an from AMANA and many other organizations. You are always welcome in any mosque, so please visit and ask questions. You owe it to yourself and your family to read this book; it will change your life.
Peace be on you and yours.
To review, Christian Gray has decided to work with Anastasia Steele on an in-depth profile of Gray. Gray has done his background on Steele very carefully - how else can a man of 27 have billions at his command with just a phone call? It takes preparation and that's exactly how we meet Ana Steele in Book One.
Young and impressionable, Ana is swept up by power and seeming invincibility of the powerful Gray. It is, as you expect, inevitable that Ana will fall head-over-heels for the magnate. She is especially attracted by his over-the-top sexual preferences. Indeed, Gray's sexual preferences work for her, at least at the start of their relationship that is pretty much where we end up in book 1.
Book 2 pushes the envelope several spaces to the left, right and center but there's also a noticeable change in Gray's behavior toward Steele. Gray is actually beginning to fall in love with her. That Ana has been in love with him for a long time makes things sweeter when she tells him that things will have to change; that he will have to change, if he wants to retain the love, trust and loyalty of a 22-year-old marketing beauty.
As she doesn't hear exactly what she wants to hear, Ana moves to the other end of the world, as far as a died-in-the-wool New Yorker believes, Seattle, where she settles into the boring life of an advertising account executive.
Author EL James, who has written this fast-moving and entertaining series, not only brings her readers along from one coast to the other with an easy command of the language, but she also brings her readers into Christian's erotic world of sexual experimentation, just as she brings Ana into the same world.
At first, it is a world that Ana finds fascinating but as we move deeper into book 2 we find two issues are crippling Christian. The first is that he finds he wants Ana, as he is head-over-heels himself but - and this is the second issue - Ana has issued an ultimatum that boils down to this phrase: "Her way or the highway."
Ana loves the erotic part of Christian's life but if they are to make a life together she needs a more "standard" love life, as well. It really must be love because Christian agrees quickly. And, just as it looks like things will be working out for the young couple, a ghost of Christian's life past (she's not really a ghost, just the love Ana has supplanted) steps into the picture and she begins to exorcise the erotic demons that are chasing our hero.
This brings us to Book 3, where the couple has made it. Christian believes he has beaten the demons of his past; the ones that Ana has asked him to beat, while Ana has accepted many of Christian's foibles. They are the quintessential power couple with a few problems to iron out but they are working at it.
And, that's one of the keys we have found to best-selling author E.L. James, whose trilogy has been on the New York Times best-seller list for some weeks now. The erotic scenes, as they are written, work very well and are a credit to the author. The descriptions are excellent and James leaves you wanting more. What more can any writer ask?
Some may argue that Ana and Christian could use a little more character development as the work moves towards its windup, but, the way the author James handles not only the expository sections as well as the erotic descriptions is so seamless that you don't need formal character development because you learn about each character through their conversations. It's a great feat of authorship to use each character's words to bring them and their issues to life.
About the only things we could find to complain about here is that we wish there was a Book 4 in the pipeline, as James happens to be a very good writer.
A good book expands the mind, fires the imagination and transports one to another world. Here's our pick of must read novels:
The Next Always (Nora Roberts)
The Next Always (2011), by prolific American romance queen Nora Roberts has themes familiar to Roberts' legions of readers, romance, family ties and friendship. Typically, Nora's heroines, Adelia "Dee" Cunnane (Irish Thoroughbred) and Rowan Tripp (Chasing Fire), are famously feisty and independent. Claire Brewster in The Next Always, is a shade different, a frazzled single parent, but no less individualistic. Her romance with Beckett is, thoroughly engaging and heart-warming.
Private Games (James Patterson)
The 2012 Olympic Games in London is under threat from a criminal mastermind. Two people join hands to stop him, top investigator Nigel Steele and news reporter Karen Pope. This action-packed thriller is on par with Patterson's innumerable other detective novels (Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider, Women's Murder Club), except that the canvas is wider
The Remains of the Day (Kazuo Ishiguro)
Kazuo Ishiguro's brilliant third novel, The Remains of the Day bagged the 1989 Man Booker Prize for Fiction and was adapted into a successful film. Like Ishiguro's earlier novels, The Remains of the Day is narrated by the protagonist, here a loyal butler named Stevens. Enjoy Ishiguro's mastery of his craft and his chilling insights into human nature.
Restless (William Boyd)
On the face of it, Restless is a spy thriller, a genre that's typically considered good to kill time on long flights. But William Boyd is no ordinary purveyor of words. His spare, elegant prose and ability to tell a gripping story make Restless a spy tale that's both engrossing and memorable.
Saturday (Ian McEwan)
Ian McEwan's Saturday narrates the events of a single day in the life of Henry Perowne, brilliant neurosurgeon and family man, set against the backdrop of Britain's largest demonstration against the Iraq war. Read this critically acclaimed novel for its complex and tightly structured plot that has all the intensity of a thriller and yet provokes philosophic contemplation on the ephemeral nature of life.
A Painted House (John Grisham)
John Grisham's A Painted House (2001) is a coming-of-age novel, a different cup of tea from his better known legal thrillers. Partly autobiographical, A Painted House is set in Arkansas during the fifties. The narrator is Luke Chandler, a seven-year-old boy from a cotton farming family. As the story unfolds, Luke awakens from a simple, idyllic life to one filled with harsh, painful realities. The detailed, descriptive passages of rural life make for memorable reading.
Romance, mystery, history, thrills, whatever your preference, these novels are at the top of their genre. What's your pick?
Learning to play the guitar can be a fun and rewarding pursuit. Whether it's your dream to become the next guitar legend or you simply want to play campfire songs, it's important to start out right. This means learning the guitar, its chords and so on. Taking shortcuts while learning might net you a song or two you can play, but it won't give you a foundation to build on. Here's where video guitar lessons can come in handy for students of all levels.
It might seem a little odd to take lessons from a filmed person online or on a VHS tape or DVD, but the truth is this type of learning works very well for a lot of students. Video guitar lessons offer a lot of perks regular classes don't. Let's look at them:
* Step by step instructions. A good video guitar lesson will begin with the basics and work all the way up to more expert techniques. This means there's no short cutting around the important things, such as guitar parts, care and so on. These instructions will be offered in a natural order and can really benefit the beginner and even a novice by teaching the fundamentals first.
* On demand. This is perhaps one of the biggest draws to video guitar lessons. Rather than having to wait for an appointed hour each week to take lessons, those who choose to go the video route can learn on their schedules when they want and as much as they want. The "teacher" is always available.
* Repeat performances. Since video guitar lessons don't involve a person whose time needs to be booked, lessons that need repeating can be repeated at no additional cost. If a particular lesson is tricky, a video student can replay it over and over again until the repetition pays off. And, since repetition and patience are the key virtues in learning an instrument, this is a real bonus.
* Visual aids. Some people can learn guitar simply by hearing and then trying it themselves. For the rest of us, however, it's nice to be able to see where fingers need to go, how the instrument is held and so on. Video lessons, just like live ones, offer these visual cues to help people along the way to guitar mastery.
* Variety. Video guitar lessons are offered by all kinds of teachers. This means the style of play can be varied greatly, which is great for students who want to learn more than one way to do things or more than one style of play.
* Cost effectiveness. In person lessons can be very costly over time. And while video guitar lessons require an initial investment, once they're paid for, they're paid for. This means no matter how many times a lesson needs to be repeated for comfort level, there's no extra charge.
* Overcoming "stage fright." Some people simply are afraid to take lessons in person because they "sound bad." By having a video teacher, this fear is eliminated. There's no one to offer up opinions.
While it's true that nothing can replace face-to-face lessons when feedback is needed, video guitar lessons can really help anyone learn the basics and beyond. The visual cues they offer, combined with the other perks make them a great way to learn a guitar. Remember, however, that a guitar is a pretty complicated instrument and it will take time and practice to truly master its playing.
Do you have a growing small business? Are you finding it difficult to keep track of stock? Do you sometimes run out of important items that make it difficult or impossible to complete orders?
If so, you know all about inventory woes. The more your business grows, the more inventory you have to manage, and the more difficult it is to keep track of products and materials as they come and go.
For the average small to medium-sized business owner, this can take an incredible amount of time! Luckily, technology can help you out. Using a barcode scanner at your small business can make inventory management considerably easier and more efficient.
You are probably familiar with what a barcode looks like, but do you know what it is for? Barcodes store information in a way that computers can read.
Ordinary printed text, while perfectly understandable to humans, can be surprisingly difficult for a computer to make sense of. The barcode is like a translation, and a barcode scanner - also known as a barcode reader - allows the computer to read and understand it.
Scanners work by measuring the amount of light reflected from the printed barcode. White bars reflect more light than dark ones. There are several varieties of scanners, from simple handheld and pen scanners to more advanced laser technology units.
Each type consists of a scanner that reads the barcode, a decoder that translates the data, and an interface or connection to a computer, where the data can be used for inventory management or other purposes such as pricing, ordering, or forecasting.
A barcode scanner alone, of course, is not enough. Once you've collected the data from a barcode, you still have to do something with it. For this, you'll need a computer to maintain the data. On that computer, you will want to install barcode software to interpret the data provided by the barcoder reader.
You may also want to install stock control software to provide an ongoing record of what you have on hand. When it comes to stock control software, there are different levels of capability. So choose the stock control software that best fits your existing system and your specific requirements.
How much will you spend for a scanner? That depends on the model. You may find some of the smaller models for less than $100, but the more sophisticated laser versions will probably be considerably more - up to and possibly over several hundred dollars.
Of course, your small business might not need the highest-end barcode scanner. So be sure to buy the scanner that suits your situation the best.
Once you have a scanner, you can considerably cut down on the amount of manual data entry and recording that you once had to do.
Just scan the barcode and the computer receives the information. It's that simple. You'll wonder how you ever got along without a barcode scanner system.
Out of all the genres of books that have been written, science fiction seems to be one that is a class apart from all the others. The feeling towards the genre is either one of fanatic following and great enjoyment or extreme hatred. Those who have a natural penchant for unearthly objects and unsolved mysteries tend it would seem to get addicted at a relatively young age, which could be as young as 7 to 8 years. To appease the curiosity and desire to read more of such books, there are science fiction clubs that are formed where infatuated kids or teens can simply exchange books and videos of their favorite science fiction books and movies.
One of the first science fiction books that one can remember today are The Time Machine and Journey to the Center of the Earth, by H. G. Wells. Today these favorites have been replaced with modern classical space operas like Robert A. Heinleins Citizen of the Galaxy and Orson Scott Cards Enders Game. This kind of science fiction has a certain epic scope to the story. They contain galaxies fighting each other for power, phenomenal depictions of aliens, a twisted concept of time and many more.
Other than the space operas there are also those that base the stories on speculative fiction. They review current society and try to excogitate what the society will be like a hundred years from now by crystal ball gazing.
Given the growing popularity of these books every year sees a slew of new series and collections. If you are mesmerized by the concept of science fiction but have never tried reading one, then start with a small book. Skim through it before purchasing to determine whether it has a writing style that you like. The ones that are easy to read will prove to be more interesting since you are not likely to get too caught up with jargon that is incomprehensible.
If science books interest you then fantasy may be another genre that you might want to try since both these genres have a similarity between them. If has been seen that if one genre invokes you, the other will too. One major difference is that fantasy books tend to be set in the medieval times and often deal with magicians and sorcerers while science books tend to more about technology, gizmos, aliens and are set in a futuristic time zone.
Moving to the second book for the "Shades of Gray" trilogy, we find things changing as a love-struck Anastasia Steele tries to forget her Christian by taking a job nearly 3,500 miles across the country.
Unfortunately, Christian has also come to realize that he loves Ana to the point that he is willing to tone down any kinkiness and go straight, as hard as it is for him. Yes, author E L James has begun to flesh out the characters in the second volume of here "Shades of Gray" series.
James, an excellent writer whose quick-witted observations only serve to enhance the story, shows us there is much more to Anastasia than meets the eye. Her character is something like an iceberg; most of it is out of sight waiting for us to discover the depths of Ana's character, all the while dealing with the changing nature of Ana's lover Christian.
You would not have thought it possible that a young author who was just trying to do an interview with Gray to see exactly what made the entrepreneur tick could smite a man as powerful as Christian Gray. However, that is what happens and James handles it with a deft touch.
Indeed, Christian, while still liking his "special" room and "special games" is actually willing to give it up so he can be with Ana. However, Ana is still exploring her own tastes and, despite the promised changes, James keeps the relationship "special" through most of the work.
One wonders with all of the twists and turns that James has masterfully built into the first two books, including the return of the "scorned woman" -- the woman Christian leaves to become involved with Ana -- just where the third piece of the trilogy will take you and the characters.
James, a television executive and mother of two small children, has an inventive style that takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotion and self-realization that is too good to miss.
This isn't the kind of book that will stand up to the scrutiny that we gave Shakespeare's work in secondary school, but, as we noted, it is not that kind of book. It is simply a book for you to read and enjoy and we are sure you will. And, while we don't have the foggiest notion what will happen in Book 3, we do know that James' innate sense of fairness and fair play will have Christian and Ana working it out in the end.
The question on everyone from the New York Time Best-Seller list to Entertainment Weekly's collective mind seems to be just how the author will work it out? Here's one answer we know that is true right now: James will take the characters where they have to go to wind up the story.
Christmas isn't too far behind us and when you think about how quickly a year goes by, it is fair to say that it isn't too far ahead of us either. However, many of us are still hanging on to those gift cards we received, waiting for the right opportunity to spend them and figure out how to spend them. Chances are you received store-specific gift cards to your favorite music or movie store, which means you can spend them only on the items within that store.
Nevertheless, more people are buying universal gift cards (usually issued by Visa, MasterCard, and American Express) at department stores and malls to allow the gift recipient to spend their gift card wherever they would like. When you've got the store-specific cards to buy clothes and other specialty items, you can take your universal gift card and spend it on whatever you like. This gives you the chance to go to the mall and shop at multiple stores. You can tote around your shopping bags like you own the place. However, you can't forget about the music and DVD store. Two of the most common items that universal gift cards are used to purchase are CDs and DVDs.
Instead of spending three days trying to illegally download a movie off of the internet, you can simply take your gift card and buy the real thing. The same goes for CDs. With the enforcement of piracy laws, more and more people are getting in trouble for downloading movies and music off the internet, so to avoid hefty fines and embarrassment; it is a good idea to take that gift card and buy the music and the movies that you want.
Also, buying movies and DVDs rather than downloading them reduces the chances that your computer will contract a virus as a result of the download. At one time, contracting viruses from downloads was not really a concern, but it was just a matter of time. But by using your Christmas gift card to buy your CDs and DVDs, you are protecting yourself by not getting caught for illegally downloading movies and music, and you are not putting your computer at risk. Both of these can be very costly, and all for the chance to acquire a movie for free.
Open yourself up to new entertainment possibilities. Buy a movie you always wanted to see or buy the CD of that artist you thought sounded great on the radio. Of course there are other items you can purchase with your Christmas gift card. No one can tell you how to spend it, but there are so many possibilities that exist when it comes to CDs and DVDs that there is always something that everyone likes because there's plenty to choose from..
Just be sure to spend the gift card on yourself. So many people decide that they don't want to purchase something that they can use and they will buy an item for their significant other, their parents, or a friend. The gift card was given to you as a gift to buy what you want. It wasn't given to you to buy what someone else wants. You want that CD, all you have to do is buy it. If you want that DVD, go for it. No one can tell you how to spend your gift card.
So go into the clothing stores, buy a new outfit with your store-specific card. Go to your favorite bath and body store for some new scents, and then head over to your favorite entertainment store to get the CD or a DVD. Have a little fun.
In the 1940s, a red-haired, freckled young man, termed "America's newest boyfriend" took the comic book universe by storm. Over the decades, the lovable, perfectly ordinary Archibald Andrews and his equally appealing friends, neighbours and teachers have amused and entertained several generations of teenagers and spun off many successful comic book series.
Archie Andrews and his gang of buddies were created by John L. Goldwater, publisher and editor of MLJ Magazines. Goldwater's inspiration for the stories was the hugely popular Andy Hardy films featuring Mickey Rooney. Archie's personality and looks may have been based on a red-headed friend of Goldwater. The characters were drawn by Montana, with dialogues by Vic Bloom. As the popularity of Archie's adventures soared, the company changed its moniker to Archie Comic Publications. Its headquarters are in the Village of Mamaroneck, New York.
Archie's adventures are set in a town called Riverdale. Betty Cooper, the girl next door and Veronica Lodge, a young millionairess, are respectively Archie's blonde and brunette loves, forever engaged in a battle of wits to win over their innocuous target of fascination. Archie's best buddy is Jughead Jones, whose laidback humour and enormous appetite in a skinny frame made him so popular that he acquired his own comic series. Reggie is Archie's mean-spirited rival in love; other memorable characters from Riverdale High are Miss Grundy, Mr. Weatherbee, Dilton, Moose and Midge.
The lives of Archie and his friends revolve around love, friendship, family, dating, heartbreak and fun, themes that teens around the world can identify with easily. Wholesome, light-hearted yet often astonishingly insightful, Archie comics had a whole pre-television generation hooked on to them, with the characters acquiring the status of cultural icons.
Among well known Archie comic books are Archie (1942-1960) and Archie's Madhouse (1959-1969). Nostalgic readers may be interested in acquiring the Archie Americana Series (June 1995 onwards), a paperback series that offers a history of the publication, notable stories from specific decades and introductions by well known authors. Other collectibles are Betty and Veronica (June 1987 onwards) and Jughead and Friends Digest (June 2005-July 2010).
On July 16, 2010, the United States Postal Service honoured the comic book heroes with the release of a stamp featuring Archie, Betty and Veronica sipping a chocolate milkshake. This year, an Archie Comics #1, published in 1942, sold for R1,332,829.29 at an auction, a record for a comic book which does not include a superhero!
For those of us adults who grew up reading Archie Comics, the characters and stories carry a warm, nostalgic appeal. For some, they're still a guilty pleasure. And why not, there's a little bit of Archie and his friends in all of us!
Books wash away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
If you are a bibliophile, you know that a little bit of reading is all the therapy that a person needs. If you love books and continue to spend a fortune every time you visit a bookstore, you need a book-friendly living space. It is important to consider your passion for books when you decide to renovate the bedroom. It will help you to keep your books in good shape and provide you with easy access to them.
Bedroom Renovation Ideas for a Bibliophile
1. Go for a Classic Bookshelf
It is the basic furniture piece that a bibliophile must possess. The size of the bookshelf will depend on the number of books that you want to store. Usually, people choose bookshelves that range from the floor to the ceiling. If the bedroom area is small, you can go for overhead bookshelves or wall-mounted bookshelves.
2. Use a Variety of Bookends
Every bibliophile needs to own bookends that showcase his love for books as well as add a sense of style to the bedroom. Today, you can choose bookends from a plethora of options. Buy a classic one for a sophisticated look. The quotation mark bookends are very popular and can be a good option for your books. If you want to create a unique look for the bedroom, you can use items such as flower vases, sculptures, action figures, stuffed animals, etc. as bookends. Look around your home and you will find many things to use as bookends.
3. Get a Comfy Reading Chair
Happiness is curling up on your reading chair and reading a book.
Reading a book makes you lose track of time. And, if you read a lot, you need a comfy chair in the bedroom. You can choose a soft, padded chair with a high backrest and arm rests. If you have adopted a modern design for the bedroom, then you can buy a modern-looking chair such as a beanbag chair. Alternatively, you can opt for a custom-made chair to match your style. A classic rocking chair or an indoor swing can also prove to be a great option for you.
4. Get a Reading Table
Sometimes, reading a book becomes comfortable with a reading table. Every bibliophile should have a reading table. You will require it if you take extensive notes while reading and believe in intensive research. A reading table will be useful when you have to refer several books at a single time. While selecting a table for the bedroom, make sure that its size matches your requirements. Do not forget to consider your height as well as the height of the chair before buying it.
5. Add Book Slots to Other Furniture
Bookshelves should not be the only furniture to hold your books. Innovative designers have shown that it is possible for tables, chairs, and sofas to have shelves or book slots. For example, your reading chair can have book shelves on its sides. Such a design will ensure that your favorite books are near you. Also, you can buy a coffee table with shelves for your magazines, newspapers, and small pocketbooks.
6. Put up Book-Related Wall Decors
Usually, bibliophiles do not have to think about decorating the walls of the bedroom. The reason is that the walls are covered by bookshelves. But, if you have a bare wall that requires attention, you can opt for book-related wall decors. For example, you can put up quotations from your favorite books. Also, you can frame pictures of your favorite authors. You can hang paintings and create a feel of library in the bedroom. Do not forget to check out the local library to obtain some tips on decorating the bedroom walls.
7. Make sure the Bedroom is Well-Lit
Adequate lighting is very necessary for reading books. So, you must ensure that the bedroom is well-lit. Allow for plenty of natural light to enter the area. Ask the renovation contractor to build a big window in the bedroom so that you can enjoy sunlight. Also, you can buy an overhead lamp and install it near your reading table or reading chair. You can position your bed near the light source and make it conducive for reading.
A bedroom is a personal space. You can renovate it the way you like. And, if you love books, do not hesitate in asking a renovation contractor to help you out. Discuss your ideas with him and create a comfortable space for reading books.

The most noticeable difference in the Kindle 3X is that it's larger, making it more comfortable to read. The size of this device is noticeably larger and heavier, making it less convenient to bring along with you. If you are looking for a reader that is less expensive, yet still has 3G wireless capability, you would probably choose the Kindle 3G over the DX. The larger display on the DX is designed for people that would prefer to read books more regularly.
If you have ever had your battery die on your laptop or smart phone, you will definitely appreciate the longevity of the Kindle battery. The Kindle battery has been known to last for several weeks on one single charge. This is possible with the limited use of the wireless connection provided. The E Ink screen uses very little battery power compared to a smart phone or tablet, so battery life on a Kindle is significantly greater than on other devices where you can read books digitally. You can actually drain your battery on the Kindle very quickly if you constantly download information to the unit. Using your Kindle in low coverage areas can cause excessive battery drain. You can actually charge your device into separate ways. One way is with the micro USB cable. The other is with the power adapter. In conclusion, the Kindle 3G Wireless reading device is the modern way to keep up with the latest reading material, whether it's a modern bestseller, an old classic or today's edition of your favorite newspaper. As you can see, this latest generation of Kindle devices are full-featured in many ways. As with anything, consider your budget, and your own personal preferences, before purchasing your very own Kindle device today.
Computer science and engineering is a booming industry--in fact, job growth in this field is expected to outpace almost every other in the next decade. This is because the computer engineer's ability to solve problems with technological solutions is highly valued across a range of disciplines. From improving healthcare delivery systems to simplifying business operations, computer science and engineering provides a way for us to navigate our complex modern world.
Computer software engineers apply principles of computer science to design software, including video games, databases, and operating systems. They are adept in using various programming languages to tailor existing applications to their clients' specific needs.
Computer programmers, on the other hand, take software that's already been designed and program it to work with end-users' computer systems. Other jobs in computer science include computer scientists, who usually work in academic or research settings, computer support specialists, and computer systems analysts.
A degree in Computer Science and Engineering will cover standard information technology and computer science courses, such as operating systems, database concepts, and object-oriented programming, as well as scientific and mathematical concepts.
Computer Science Program Outcomes
At the successful completion of the program, you should be able to:
Demonstrate basic knowledge of strengths and challenges of current Microsoft Office products
Demonstrate critical thinking
Interpret written programs
Create, design, and maintain web pages
Are you interested in computers? Have you always dreamed of creating programs that thousands of people will use? Do you have excellent mathematical skills? Perhaps you should get a degree in computer science. A degree in computer science will lead to many high paying job opportunities that will be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys working with technology. Options include online undergraduate degrees, like associate computer science degrees, and graduate degrees.
Computer science majors learn about computer hardware, software and programming. Students will learn about computer systems and how humans interact with them. The classes are heavy on programming, and students will learn different computer languages, such as Java. The major relies heavily on mathematics. It also requires that students are able to think creatively in order to solve problems, such as debugging a program.
Coursework for an online computer science program can include classes such as data structures and algorithms, introduction to operating systems, database management, and programming in a variety of technical languages. Students often take advanced mathematics courses--number theory, linear algebra, and differential equations--to supplement their technical skills.
A degree in computer science or a certificate from a computer science school will be the key in becoming a competitive candidate for a job. A computer science degree or certificate can usually be gained in a two to four-year program. Courses at a computer science school or in a computer science distance learning program will include database management, computer systems, internet systems and more.
According to the Department of Labor Occupational Handbook 2004-5, employment in the field of computer science is expected to increase much faster than the average as organizations continue to adopt increasingly sophisticated technologies.
Computer scientists work in virtually all types of organizations. They maintain databases, create websites, provide computer support, create networks and work in all areas of computer maintenance. Computer science school programs can be found at most universities and colleges, but there are also computer science distance learning.

As download DVDs are becoming more and more popular, some people are holding out on trying this new trend because they don't understand how it works. They're concerned the price won't be worth the product and they'd rather have the "bird in the hand," so to say, than bother with DVD downloads.
In reality, the concept is pretty simple, the pricing can't be beat and the quality can, in fact, vary, but good services ensure DVD downloads are high in quality on their end. This means, the only quality concern is on the receiver's side. Let's look at two factors that can impact the quality of DVD downloads:
* The site they're purchased or rented from. This can have a huge impact on the end product. If the files are clean and the software solid, there generally isn't any reason to have concern about the movies you purchase via download. They should be delivered electronically in the same style and file type format as an actual purchased DVD disk.
The companies that offer DVD downloads range from the big names in the computer and movie industry and smaller clearing house names to peer-to-peer locations. The only caution is to make sure the site you buy from has licensing rights to actually sell, and chances are the purchase will be solid.
* The equipment on the buyer's end. If you try to download a DVD to a computer that's old, outdated and on a bad Internet connection, for example, the resulting file might be compromised. If, however, your machine is newer and designed to handle and play DVDs, you should be in good shape.
Once you purchase a DVD download or even rent one, there are some things you can do on your end to ensure a quality viewing:
* If you intend to play it on your computer, make sure background programs have been closed and even consider turning off your connection to the Internet to lessen interference with the files. DVD downloads are large files, and they are by nature, very graphics heavy. With this in mind, it's important to make sure the computer's energy is dedicated to playing the movie, rather than surfing the Net.
* Make sure if you're running the DVD on the computer, but want the images to appear on your larger television screen, be certain you've made the connections correctly, using high quality video cables. Lesser cables can really impact the viewing quality.
* If you've decided to make a burn of the movie and play it in a DVD player, be certain the burn was A.) legal, B.) doesn't include copyright protection files that will hamper play and/or quality and C.) is a solid copy.
DVD downloads are generally worth the price. Whether they're purchased in a package deal that includes tons of downloads or by the single movie, if they're done right, they're quicker to obtain, easier to store and offer the same kind of quality as a regular disk.
Plus, they tend to be a whole lot cheaper, too, which is always a good thing for a consumer. Just make sure your set up is right and the files coming in are decent copies and it will be easy for you to see why this trend is going so strong.
All software manufacturers in the marketing of their different video editing software programs will be pushing specific features at you. One way to steer clear of being cornered into software that is unsuitable is by being aware of the four general varieties of video editing software available today.
Being familiar with the intention of the software program you are considering is especially significant when reading reviews. If the reviewer has not taken this under consideration or if you don't either, then you can end up with a wrong perception of the abilities of that particular video editing software.
Consumer level video editing software and professional video editing software were the two initial categories that defined the market in the past. At the consumer level were the original versions of Pinnacle and programs similar to it and at the high end were programs such as Final Cut Pro.
This two tiered arrangement steadily gave way to an extra level of what could be referred to as advanced consumer video editors. The drive for new capabilities to generate revenues meant that some of the professional capabilities were being incorporated into the home user market. These programs were called "prosumer" video editing software.
The most recent addition to the video editing software line up is a range of software that is very easy to use with many of the advanced capabilities removed to make the entire video editing process very user friendly without the need for any great technical understanding.
The way that these specific programs are different is that they try to reduce the entire video editing work-flow to a point and click process. From capturing or importing the raw files through to the final result whether it is to a DVD disc, Facebook or as an email attachment to a friend, each step is automatically performed by the software according to the choices made by the user.
Due to the point and click guidance provided by the software program it is extremely well suited to the person who is possibly not especially interested in the editing process itself or not that technically keen.
If you were to check out a "prosumer" video editor from perhaps two or three years ago you would probably see today what we now have as being a standard consumer video editing suite. This next level of video editor has advanced remarkably over the past few years and is represented by such items as Adobe Premiere Elements and Magix Movie Edit Pro.
This echelon of video editing software has evolved to a point of providing impressive levels of editing control, extensive video file compatibility for both input and output along with special effects, video filters, audio control and almost anything the consumer editor would desire and more!
Next we have the prosumer level programs like Magix Video Pro X. At this point we start to see the beginnings of the types of features and control that the professionals use. They provide for a greater availability of tracks on the timeline irrespective of whether they are for video, audio, narration, subtitles, titles or whatever!
These editing packages usually retain similar onscreen layouts in terms of the graphical user interface of those at the levels below them which makes them relatively simple to learn or at least approach. However whilst having all the features and functionality of the software below them they introduce more advanced elements such as moving paths and more to the serious enthusiast. The advantage of going straight to a prosumer level program is that it is very unlikely that you will want to or need to upgrade any time soon.
Of course at the top end of video editing software you will find entirely professional programs like Avid and Sony Vegas Pro and to tell the truth unless you are considering becoming professional at video editing yourself there is no real need to go into it too much. They are astonishing in what they can achieve and exceptionally complicated to learn!
If you are attempting to choose which video editing software meets your needs then for starters decide which type of video editor you are or want to come to be. Then limit your selections down to the software programs that are aimed at that level and when you have done that give it a try for yourself and find out how you like it.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the implementation of certain techniques that will increase your site's findability in the search engines.
There are two main forms of Search Engine Optimization: White Hat SEO and Black Hat SEO. White Hat SEO is the act of making your site adhere to the policies and guidelines the search engines have set forth so that they can more easily find your site and rank it according to its relevance to the keyword or phrase searched on. Alternatively, Black Hat SEO is the act of using techniques that are contrary to the terms of service of the search engines. Any technique that could be considered spammy, deceptive, or unethical falls under this category. The following basic SEO best practices will all stem from White Hat SEO techniques.
Keyword Research - The first step in the SEO process is to decide on what keywords or phrases you would like your site to show up for. Start with relevance. If you were someone searching for your site on the search engines what words or phrases would you type in to find your site? Try to be as specific as possible. Yet make this list as large as you possibly can. If you have any sort of analytics on your site or if you have done any online paid marketing, an analysis of these sources would be very valuable. You may also want to perform some type of competitive analysis at this point as well that will help you to see what your competitors are trying to show up for, and may also help you to define your niche in the industry.
Once you have this initial list, you need to prioritize the list according to relevance and search traffic. There are many free tools online that will give you a rough estimate of search traffic for your keywords. Use one of these to sort your list by the amount of searches each keyword or phrase gets. From there, choose the ten keywords you consider to be the most relevant and targeted for your business. These keywords will be the ones you optimize your site for.
On Page Optimization - The next phase of SEO is to go through your site and strategically implement those keywords on your site. The idea here is to make is so that the search engines (and anyone else for that matter) will easily be able to tell what each page of your site is about. Here are the two basic steps to take:
Content: Each page of your site should contain unique content that is focused around one of your keywords or phrases. Include the exact keyword or phrase at least once in the content of the page. Be careful not to overdo it. Your content should flow naturally to any visitor of your site and shouldn't look like the only reason you have content is for the search engines.
Titles: Each page of your site has a title tag encoded into the language of the page. This title tag should be unique and relevant to every single page of the site. Be sure to include your keyword or phrase once within the title of the page. This keyword should match the keyword you focused your content around.
Link Building - The search engines work much like humans do. If I have one friend that I trust tell me he thinks a site is worth looking at, I may go check it out. But if I have 100 friends I trust tell me they all think the same site is worth looking at, I'm definitely going to check it out. It's all about credibility. Both the level of trust and the quantity of trusted people play a role in the credibility.
The same goes for the search engines. The more sites that link to my site and the more trusted those sites are, the more credible and relevant the search engines will see my site.
So how do I get other sites to link to mine? There are many different solutions to this question. The solution the search engines like best and the one that actually works the best as well is termed "link bait." This is exactly what you think it would be: creating something so enticing, unique, and captivating that people will just naturally link to it because of its value. This could be anything from a press release to a funny video to a free giveaway. The more creative you are and the more enticing your link bait is, the more links and traffic you'll get to your site.

Rodney Albert Black is a character. I don't simply mean that Rodney is a character in Hold Your Light, the newest book of autobiographical fiction written by novelist Wayne Bien. I mean Rodney is a character, and quite frankly the world needs more characters. Hold Your Light is not only a charming read, but also a message for kids struggling at a young age with the choice of homosexuality.
Rodney's a cool kid, quirky, and intelligent. While horses are a big part of his life, his weight problem leaves him spending the bulk of his time reading in bed, listening to music, and thinking about his classmates. Not all of his classmates, just the boys. This is something that his parents won't abide, and are simply not prepared to raise a gay child. Much to Rodney's pleasure he is sent to an all boys military academy. That will fix him.
Hold Your Light is an inspiring, coming of age story told quickly and without regrets. Rodney's journey toward manhood is helped along by a number of generous adults seemingly eager to help, or at least straighten him out. Following a short stint at a Southern military academy, Rodney returns to his first school and boyfriend, and discovers Rocket. Rocket is a gorgeous horse that has a remarkable affect on Rodney's self-confidence.
Rodney is not the clichd "queer" child you might expect, but rather the first to throw a punch, and the only student with the courage to mount Rocket. Not unlike Rodney, Rocket is known to throw a punch or two himself.
Rocket changes Rodney and his newfound confidence is undeniable. This is a very well written, fun read that can be enjoyed by readers of any age. Hold Your Light is a paperback with 265 pages and is available at Lulu.com for $15.95 or as an eBook for $5.95
How do you know if you have a bestseller on your hands or not? What if you are the writer and you are completely confident that the book is unbeatable? You've had several professional book critics check out the manuscript prior to publishing. You've had numerous pre-publication book reviews done, critics dissected it and the best in the business critique it; thus, you went into publishing the book prepared, ready, and producing the upmost quality reaching perfection, but you are still not on the bestseller's list. You are left stunned and unsure why. Believe it or not there is actually a checklist publicists and publishers review before pitching any book as a bestseller and it should be your guide before writing and publishing your next book.
1. Timing is everything. Timing of your book is crucial in relations to the topic of the book and if the topic is a popular subject at the moment or not. Is it a hot topic in the media? Are office employees talking about it at the water cooler? For instance, when Octomom appeared on the scene, then it would have been a perfect moment to release a book covering the tribulations of giving birth and raising multiple sets of kids at once.
2. Use a grabbing title. The title is crucial regarding how to pitch your book and whose interest shall it peak. Too many times writers have award-winning stories on their hands, but lose potential readers with the title. Thus, ensure the title is appropriate, gripping, interesting, and keeps the reader wanting to pick up the book and never put it down until they are completely done with it.
3. Create a cover to attract your audience. It is true that people do judge a book by its cover. Bookstores will tell you that customers pick up books, flip through them solely due to the cover grabbing their attention. Therefore, before creating a cover ask yourself if the graphics stand out amongst the other books on the shelf. Are the colors inviting to your target market? For instance, if you are writing a fiction book geared towards women, then normally the book cover has appealing colors to females attracting the target market.
4. Use the grapevine. The best type of advertising for your book is to start talking about it to any and every person you meet. If you are in line at the grocery store, shopping, at the gym, on facebook, make sure you tell people about your book. The only way people are going to know about what you are up to and have published is to tell people. In addition, you want the gossip chain to continuously flow regarding you having a book available. Hence, it starts with you and without you kick starting the process, then the word about your book will never connect with the grapevine halting publicity possibilities within reach.
So remember before publishing your next book make sure these four tips are in place, and you shall have a bestseller on your hands.
Consumers must be thinking that the name should be Windows 9, but Microsoft is eager to suggest a break with the past. Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft's Operating Systems Group said "We're not building an incremental product"
Microsoft considered the name "Windows One," he said, to match products like OneNote and OneDrive and its "One Microsoft" business strategy. But he noted the name was snagged a long time ago, by a young Bill Gates.

New task view button: There's a new task-view button on the taskbar for quick switching between open files and quick access to any desktops you create.
Multiple desktops: Create desktops for different purposes and projects and switch between these desktops easily and pick up where you left off on each desktop.
Find files faster: File Explorer now displays your recent files and frequently visited folders making for finding files you've worked on is easier.
Other New Features
In Windows 8 interface you can't see which App is open on your screen and how to get back to an app. Windows 10 has a feature like OS X's Mission Control that lets you zoom out and see everything that's open on a PC, then select any app to enter it. You can also have multiple desktop configurations open and switch between them.
Microsoft also promises that Windows 10 will be more intuitive than Windows 8. Windows 10 will be also Touch Enabled. You will still be able to use touch to do things like scroll and pinch-to-zoom on laptops and desktops.
Windows 10 is everything Windows 8 should have been. Windows 10 will deliver the right experience on the right device at the right time. It will be most comprehensive platform ever.

English and French sound very dissimilar when you hear them spoken, but these two languages actually share quite a few commonalities, especially when written. Understanding the history of the two languages will help you understand the similarities and differences that they enjoy.
History of Modern French
Both French and English started in European countries. French is a "Romance" language, which means its origins lie in the ancient Roman Empire. Latin was the language of the Roman Empire, but since the Empire had such a vast reach, many areas developed their own dialects of the language, often mixed with the languages of the native people. When the area that is today known as France was invaded by Germanic tribes in the 400s, the language took on a decidedly Germanic flavor. The native tongue of the new governing body was mixed with the Latin the people were speaking to create a new dialect, decidedly Latin, but with Germanic pronunciations.
As the Germanic tribes maintained control of the area, the language digressed further from Latin and became its own distinct tongue. This required the language to be codified, or written, so that political and legal process could take place much easier. The language was named "French" for the Frankish people that lived in the area where it was predominantly spoken. French became the official language of the new country in 1539 by the Edict of Villers Cotterets. The grammar of the language has remained relatively the same since the early 1600s, which is when the language was standardized by the French Academy. Today it is the official language of 22 countries, and the co-official language of many others, including Canada, Switzerland, Madagascar, and Belgium.
History of Modern English
English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. A truly global language, it is the language of finance, technology, and diplomacy. This is surprising in light of the fact that the language originated on the tiny island of Great Britain.
The English language is not a Romantic language like French. Because the island was isolated from the Roman Empire, it was not influenced as heavily by Latin as the inland languages were. However, French and English share one main commonality, and that is the influence of invading Germanic tribes.
While different tribes invaded England than invaded France, they spoke similar languages. Prior to the Germanic invasion, the people of Great Britain spoke a Celtic language. However, the Germanic people spoke a language that eventually developed into Old English. This was the language spoken on the island until 1100.
In 1066, France and England's histories overlapped, when the William the Conqueror, the Duke of Normandy, conquered the island and brought French to the land. While the people did not speak France, the government did, and the language began to influence the language of the common people, eventually developing into Middle English, a combination of French and Old English. This gradually developed into Modern English, the language that is spoken today, and the invention of the printing press made it possible to unify and standardize the language.
Words Common to French and English
The overlapping influence of the Germanic tribes and the French influence on English history cause there to be several words that the two languages share. The pronunciation may be different, but these common words include:
- Chaise lounge
- Hors d'oeuvre

Habit #1. Be proactive
Control the environment rather than waiting for something to happen. Take initiatives but remember that there is no need to be intolerable, pushy or mean. Being proactive means understanding one's authority to respond to the stimulus and make things come about.
Habit #2. Begin with the end in mind - the habit of personal leadership
Be a leader. Move towards the goals envisioned. Concentrate on pertinent activities and stay away from any diversions. Become more constructive and profitable.
Habit #3. Put things first - the habit of personal management
Organize and implement activities that are in line with the goals set up in habit #2. According to Covey, habit #2 is "mental creation" while habit #3 is the "physical creation." Create an understanding on what needs to be done. Focus on the results.
Habit #4. Think win-win - the habit of interpersonal leadership.
Achievements are realized with the help of others. There is enough for everyone and success results from a collaborative effort from people around. One has to seek reciprocal gain from every human relationship.
Habit #5. Seek first to understand then to be understood - habit of communication
The old adage that says "Diagnose before you prescribe" is enlightening. Always listen with the purpose of understanding the other person instead of the natural instinct of focusing to reply.
Habit #6. Synergize - habit of creative cooperation
Always see the usefulness and the possibilities of the other person's role. This is simply working as a team.
Habit #7. Sharpen the saw - habit of self-renewal
This is merely self-growth. Always seek to continuously improve or develop the self.
The seven principles shared in this forceful audio program are not original thoughts by Dr. Stephen R. Covey but are just common information that is not commonly practiced by people. All the seven habits are even part of all the major religions of the world. It is just human nature that prevents us from seeing what is in front all the time. In the "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Audio" program, Covey helps one through the transformation of becoming a very successful person.
Nearly everyone agrees that the cinema or movie theater is a great place to watch films and relax - that is the magic of a Tinseltown movie theater.
Obviously, the explanation for this is because you can watch the film on a wide screen with surround sound that can easily make you be transported away by the plot of the movie
The high quality of the Tinseltown movie and the hi-fi stereo system are without doubt the most entertaining part of the movie theater-going experience. It definitely is not being present in the cinema house itself! They are all too often full of shops trying to get your money before you sit down and full of talkative kids after you've taken your seat!
However, what if you brought this technology home with you? And what if it worked out less expensive also? Without doubt, this would certainly be something you would enjoy more. Just imagine it for a minute: a real Tinseltown Movie Theater in the house - in your house!
Before not so long ago, only a small number of American families had installed a Tinseltown movie theater to be used in their own homes. Of late, however, a large proportion of American people are starting to become less interested in going out to watch Tinseltown movies in a cinema complex.
Obviously, this is due to the evolution of the home movie theater system.
A basic home movie theater is relatively easy to install. All you need is a television with a screen that is wider than 27 inches, a DVD player and three ordinary speakers. And voila the basic components of a Tinseltown movie theater. This could be all you need to give you the level of home movie entertainment that suits you.
However, I am certain that you would want the authentic feeling of sitting in a full-sized Tinseltown movie theater, but without the annoying other people or perhaps it is you, who likes to sing along, shout out loud or otherwise get involved in the picture, but does not like to upset the others. Its possible, you know, :-)
In any case, the reason why I am saying this is because there are other items of kit that you might want to add in order to upgrade the home Tinseltown movie theater experience. A few additions, over time, say, which would ensure a rather more authentic Tinseltown movie theater experience right in your very own living room.
For example, you could supplement the above mentioned three basic components by putting in specialist home movie entertainment furniture a refrigerated drinks cabinet; a few small tables for tidbits; adjustable lighting on remote; air conditioning or fans; an usherette with a torch - OK, maybe that's going a little too far Nevertheless, everything is determined by the budget you set for your home Tinseltown movie theater. The proportions of the room are another factor which determines how resplendent your home Tinseltown movie theater can be.
A handy piece of advice from home theater enthusiasts is that you need to find the right size television set for your Tinseltown home movie theater. The correct size does not necessarily mean the biggest you can afford. The correct size television depends on the room in your house where you want to install the home movie theater. Big is not always the best choice for your home movie entertainment system. It is, however, a recommendation that the television screen should not be smaller than 27 inches, because the picture on a smaller screen could be disappointing for a Tinseltown home movie theater. A good principle is that the seats should be approximately 5-8 times the diameter of the television screen away for normal eyesight.
Another tip is that you purchase speakers that will give you high fidelity surround sound from a high quality brand of speakers. In addition, you need to be sure that if the speakers you bought do not give enough surround sound, then you are able to return them. There are speakers that sound fantastic in the store but when you put them in a room, they sound inadequate. If the store allows returns, then that is all is well and good.
In addition, you may need to choose a DVD player. Once more, quality is important. It is the belief of many home theater enthusiasts that all DVD players deliver clear and crisp images. Although some DVD players promise a flicker-free picture, almost all DVD players provide this feature, so do not be overly swayed by this assertion.
So, size is important, in this case. Knowing what the size of the room is where you will set up your home Tinseltown movie theater, will be the basis of how big the TV needs to be. The size of the room is also the basis for evaluating the number of speakers. If the room is of a size, you may have need of more than the basic three speakers. Adding a subwoofer can go a long way too, to achieve a pleasing surround sound if your home Tinseltown movie theater is situated in a bigger room again.
All of these factors will afford you such a home Tinseltown movie theater experience as, not long ago, only a few could experience. A professional home movie theater designer may be a big help in ensuring you have the best home Tinseltown movie theater installation to give you the best possible home movie theater experience right there in your very own living room.
To Rome with Love is a romantic comedy English movie directed by Woody Allen and starring Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz and Judy Davis.
Love and romance come in different shapes and sizes. But the usual prerogative of commercial cinema keeps us hooked to one 'ever after' or 'never ever' kind of romance. Thus, the major difference between most love stories made in the 1930s to 1940s Hollywood, and those made now, is only one of aesthetics and not of emotions or morality.
Then there is Woody Allen. For the past 40 years, he has been challenging our notions of love, romance, sex and lust. 'To Rome With Love', he is at it again. The master hasn't lost his voice as he comes out with one of his strongest films in recent years.
In the ancient city of Rome, different people fall in love with different things. A retired music producer (Woody Allen) discovers opera in the bathroom singing of his daughter's would be father-in-law. An old architect (Alec Baldwin) reminisces his love story with his girlfriend and his brief affair with her best friend. An ordinary man (Roberto Benigni) falls in love with being 'famous for being famous.'
A newly married, newly moved to Rome, couple discover brief-sex with strangers and thus their love for each other and their small town.
Love is often said to be eternal. And one of Rome's sobriquet is that of 'an eternal city'. Rome, for Allen, is thus a perfect setting for that eternal feeling we call 'love'. Allen, as always, begs you to ask yourself what love is, how is it different from lust and sex, what is love for something as untouchable as fame or a person's voice.
Allen weaves in different stories, with different themes, all funny and all having a touch of Kafkaesque surrealism and a few with more than a touch of melancholia. In the past, he might have made different films of each of these stories. But he is old and seeped in nostalgia about life. That is perhaps the reason for this medley; call it a foursome love story if you will.
He chooses his own pace in all the stories, rushing through one while meditating on another.
Yet, one of the best thing about the To Rome With Love movie is that it takes an 'old man' like him to have a modern morality in commercial cinema.
In one story, a married man has sex with a prostitute, while at the same time his wife is with an actor and is tempted to sleep with him. In the hands of 'take-no-risk' commercial cinema, she would emerge from the experience as a 'virgin Madonna'. In the hand of Allen, she emerges just like anyone of us would emerge. Allen prevents her from sleeping with the actor ('thank god' the morally upright amongst us will say), but has her sleep with someone else instead in a hilarious encounter.
The last time you had a heroine of a commercial cinema so unapologetically sleep with two men, was in the brilliant 1933 film "Design For Living". Morality in our modern times, have gone far ahead, but cinema has chosen to stay in rigor-mortis on the subject.
Romance and love can be of many types. And it is this variety that he achieves in a light, breezy, funny and sometimes nostalgic manner with a cast, especially himself, delivering praiseworthy performances.
Did you know that according to a CNN report that nearly 90% of all computers attached to the internet today have some sort of spyware or adware installed without the owner's knowledge? Spyware and adware are malicious forms of software than can run undetected and can harm or slow down you computer, annoy or trick you into buying something you don't want and in some extreme cases can lead to the theft of your digital identity.
The best protection against these problems is some sort of spyware detection and removal software. There are lots to choose from though they don't all do the same thing. Many many unsubstantiated claims about their effectiveness and some are only good for a few months before you need to pay for an update.
Here are some things you should look for when trying to decide which spyware removal software to use:
Free Trial: A lot of spyware removal software will actually offer a limited free trial of the program so you can run a scan on your PC to make sure you really need it. Most spyware scanners will detect a majority of the known spyware and adware programs out there, but some may detect more than others. Both Windows and Macintosh users have to worry about spyware and adware now, so it's a good idea to at least try the software before you end up purchasing it to make sure it runs on your computer.
Instant Download: When your computer is freezing or you're being assaulted with pop-up ads you don't want to wait for some spyware removal program to show up in the mail two weeks later. If your PC is having troubles you're often better off addressing them immediately and purchasing a program that can help you that very day. Instant download programs are usually cheaper to buy, environmentally friendly (no packaging or gas used to transport it) and are just as powerful as any software you may end up buying and having shipped to you.
Regular Updates: Because the adware and spyware out there is constantly evolving you want to make sure your spyware removal software is regularly updated to face the latest and greatest spyware threats. Be sure to research how often your software is updated and how much it costs. Some update on a weekly basis for free for a year, some offer lifetime updates and some only update for the first 90 days of ownership.
Owning a computer is like owning a car: you have to take care of it if you want it to last a long time. A few simple steps like using a spyware or adware detection and removal tool is a great way to make sure your computer lasts for years to come.
You have just received your masterpiece in print, and it's both exciting and scary at the same. Perhaps you've just realized that you aren't the only new author out there, and nobody knows who you are. Perhaps you've just asked yourself, "How competitive is the book publishing industry anyway?"
The statistics may surprise you. According to a recent survey of the top book publishers, an estimated 25 million people in the United States consider themselves writers, but only 5% have actually been published. Even more surprising is the fact that an astonishing 5 to 6 million manuscripts are still looking for a publishing home at any given time.
So the real question is, in this flooded field of book writers, how would a lesser-known novelist get noticed? In this highly competitive industry, how can you, as a first-time author, turn your dreams of having a best seller into a reality?
Possibly the most important step you can take in ensuring the success of your book is to be actively involved in your own promotion. If you have just written your first, or even second, book and you are not yet well-known in the literary world, your chances of getting signed by a major agent who could "take you all the way" are pretty slim. Once it's published, promoting your own book takes hard work and diligence, and you have to be resilient.
As your own book promoter, it is common to be anxious and you may want to start your book tour right away, or begin scheduling book-signings at retail bookstores nationwide. However, getting stores and retail outlets to promote a book that no one has heard of is unlikely. So, now what do you do?
One of your first tasks is to get your book reviewed. If you are like many other new authors, you have probably always thought that book reviews are typically unsolicited. Now that your book is in hand and ready for sale, however, you don't have time to wait for the local columnist to stumble across your book, read it at his leisure and then hopefully be inspired enough to write a review in the town paper.
In the real world of book publishing, reviews are indeed solicited and are sometimes a fee-based service to newly published authors. Contracting a professional book reviewer has many benefits; the first and most obvious is a well-written book review. The book reviewer will not only critique the book, but the author as well. It's important the review be favorable, as a less-than-favorable review would be detrimental to not just you and the sale of your book, but also your publisher.
Your professional book review will probably be posted on many review sites, directories, and online bookstores. The review can also be used in all of your promotional material. If you acquire a book reviewer prior to publication, the endorsement can be included in the book cover. Typically, the review should be the foundation of your campaign.
Book reviews are by far the best way to let the public know your book is available, and is worthy of being read; the review can be vital in the success of your book. Using a book review service is a good idea, especially if you are a self-published author, as it is extremely difficult to grab the attention of media and potential readers in this saturated industry. Be sure your book review is not a sales pitch; that's your job. A book review should entice a reader to pick up your book, and hopefully not want to put it down.
Movies come from all over the world and such flicks are usually accompanied by their original language. For instance, a movie from French naturally goes with French subtitles while an anime is often embedded with subtitles in Japanese. So for exotic people who are unable to make out what the character says, watching those movies becomes intolerable. In this case, people would turn to add subtitle they prefer to the movie so as to have a better understanding of it. Since the highly-acclaimed Handbrake is to this point, we provide detailed solutions on how to use Handbrake to add subtitle to movie files, in both hard and soft ways.
Note: Handbrake attaches subtitles to the movie file in two approaches including hard burn and soft subtitle. The former indicates that subtitles are written on top of the image permanently and cannot be turned on or off like on the DVD while the later means subtitles can be added as a part of the movie and can be enabled or disabled as you want.
Way 1: Add Hard Subtitles to Movie Videos with Handbrake
As is mentioned above, adding hard subtitle with Handbrake ensures the subtitle is a permanent part of the movie and it cannot be switched into other language. Such method guarantees the synchrony of subtitle and movie even it is edited and is commonly used for DVD movies. One thing needs to be specified, Handbrake will be at loss when facing DVDs with copy protections. So you shall first seek for third-party software, like VLC or DVD ripper (http://www.macxdvd.com/mac-dvd-ripper-pro), for help before using Handbrake to embed movie subtitle.
First, locate the source DVD with Handbrake that can read this file. Second, click the "Browse" button to choose the path where you want to save the output file in. Third, press the "Subtitles" button and select the preferred track from the drop down menu of Source. Tips: if there are more than one tracks, you are suggested to test the one you choose to ensure whether it is the right one you want.
Way 2: How to Use Handbrake to Attach Soft Subtitle to Movie Videos
In a general way, you can play the movie with a media player like VLC or Quicktime player and display subtitles upon putting the subtitle file in a way that both movie and subtitle file are saved in the same name. E.g. if your movie is Star Trek Into Darkness.avi, then you subtitle file will be named as Star Trek Into Darkness.srt. But this may pose a problem that the subtitle and the movie file will go out-of-step if the movie is edited.
As the latest Handbrake V0.9.9, the 64-bit build, features soft subtitle adding power, you can display subtitles is by making part of the movie video with option to turn on or off the subtitle.
Step 1: Search the Subtitles You Prefer
Just google to find and download your preferred language subtitle from the web. Please note that subtitle files can be easily found on the internet but there is no 100% guarantee for the existence.
Generally, the subtitle files are saved in.srt and.sub. But Handbrake only accepts SRT as the subtitle input. For an effective subtitle file searching, you can put "movie title" + "your preferred language" + "subtitle" as the search strings and select the subtitle file saved in .srt.
Step 2: Load Source Video
Just open Handbrake and Choose the source video or movie as you like.
Step 3: Insert Subtitles into Movie Using Handbrake
Hit the "Subtitle" tab on the main interface of Handbrake. Then press "Import SRT" button to embed .srt subtitle to the movie file. You can attach more than one subtitle to the movie with Handbrake. Then choose the output format you want from the side window and click "Start" to finish subtitle adding to your movie. Then you can enjoy movies with subtitles in your favorite language.
Tips: there are some video files like MKV contain multi language tracks, some of which are inutile and even enlarge the output file size. So you'd better find a Handbrake Alternative to cope with these multi-track videos. Luckily, MacX Video Converter Pro is the way to go. Supporting 370+ video and audio codecs, it can convert among any HD MKV, MTS, M2TS, AVCHD and SD videos such as MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, FLV, etc for playback on iPhone 5S/5C, iPad 4, Galaxy S4, HTC One, etc that Handbrake cannot handle.

The internet was created in the 60's to facilitate communication between researchers in the US Department of Defense. Largely made as a telecommunications tool for educational professionals and scientists looking to share private information with each other, the internet has since became the best public telecommunications technology available. The Advanced Research Projects Agency (another government organization) created this tool, but the internet is not government run. Instead, an organization named the Internet Society develops standards for its use. In the late 1990's, the World Wide Web was devised, greatly increasing the accessibility to the average person. About 50 million people were utilizing this service for private telecommunication needs at this time.
Because one can find articles and documents on any subject imaginable, the internet is the top source for any information you wish to access. Though it was formerly a tool for sharing research, you can find reports on anything you want, from celebrity news to shopping to auctions to books. Because of its ease of use and speed of obtaining information, the web has slowly replaced the demand for libraries, newspapers and magazines for information on trends, resources for research projects and current events.
This increase in demand and in audience facilitated the advancement of new uses for the internet. Many people have heard of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology; this was devised to give a digital voice experience to users at a cost much lower than traditional phone service. Less people, however, have heard of IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). It is estimated that there are currently about 15.5 million users of this service, with over half of them being located in Europe.
When cable and satellite programming is sufficient for your needs, why switch to IPTV? There are many reasons. First of all, if you happen to be the type of person who has to be a part of all new advancements in technology and buy the latest and greatest stuff on the market; this is the newest television viewing experience. Even if you aren't the type that had constantly changing needs, IPTV comes with a lower cost and greater value for your money. You won't be restricted to the number of channels you wish to have based on cost; instead you have the flexibility to choose from a huge array of international and domestic channels for less money.
Portability, of course, is the greatest advantage of IPTV. When you pay for cable and satellite programming, you are restricted to viewing this service at home. What do you do when you are on the go? When you travel, you are subjected to the local programming of the area you are in. If you want to access news and channels local to your residence, you are out of luck. When you subscribe to IPTV, you never have to worry about this- you can view any show on any channel, regardless of where your travels take you.
When reviewing the history of jazz music, it can't be told without acknowledging the greatest performer in the genre, Louis Armstrong aka Satchmo. While Chicago wants to claim him as the town where Louis spent much of his career, New Orleans is where he was born and raised. The Crescent City is also a where Louis originally learned to play that trumpet, based on sounds he heard from other bands that, ate that time, were virtually on every street corner.
Louis came from a poor family but he truly loved life and had much natural musical talent, which meant he was soon able to rise from his humble origins. The nickname "Satchmo" dates back to his childhood and is abridged from "Satchelmouth," a name he earned for his huge, beaming grin. Louis' skills as a musician were entirely self-developed. He first excelled at the cornet and only later picked up the trumpet (which he later became famous for). His skills were enhanced by playing with seasoned musicians and local New Orleans bands, but never in his life did Louis have formal private lessons or follow a traditional path of musical education.
There have been many books written and documentaries made on the life and times of Louis (including two autobiographies by Louis himself!). Most comprehensive biographies trace Louis' life beginning with his apprenticeship in New Orleans from 1901-1919, through the rise of Louis' career in the 1940s and 50s. By the 1960s Louis was on top of the world ("I don't sigh for nothing," Armstrong is claimed to have said) and pretty much stayed there until his death in 1971. In the heyday of his career, Louis initially traveled to Chicago, New York and eventually to all parts of the world as the United States' Ambassador of Jazz.
Throughout his career, Louis was always a true musicians' musician. He learned to read other people's music while playing with Fletcher Henderson's band in New York, but what makes him remarkable is how he used his own unique style to completely redefine be genre. How did he do it? Using the basic elements of jazz, such as blue notes, syncopation, and most notably, improvisation, Louis blended those parts together like a New Orleans gumbo and created a genre of music unknown to the world before that time. Much like jazz itself, Louis was restless - he never could stay put, and never would.
Louis was of course predated by many who set the stage before him, such as Buddy Bolden and Jelly Roll Morton. These pioneers made it possible for Louis to make the innovations that turned jazz into a worldwide hit. Call it jazz, blues, ragtime, or swing - it's a style of music that has captured the world's attention to this day.
Do you love to read but don't think you have enough time? Here are four of my favorite strategies for getting in more reading time.
1. Audiobooks. This is my favorite way to catch up on those books that I've been meaning to read. Even during my busiest days, I find there are lots of times during the day that I find myself alone and wishing I could be doing something more productive: Cleaning the bathtub, organizing closets, waiting for soccer practice to end, taking the dog for a walk. Another bonus: I find that if I have something really juicy and suspenseful on my iPod, I will go for a longer run than I would otherwise (so my leg muscles and my Labrador both benefit.)
You can find free audiobooks at a variety of sources. Check your local library for books on CD or tape. Some libraries even have a way that you can download audiobooks via their website. (Typically, you can listen only for a specific period of time, because you are borrowing the audio and not purchasing it.)
You can also get select titles (both human-read and computer-read) free through Project Gutenberg as well as through LibriVox, where volunteers read chapters from public domain titles. (Do a quick google search for the URLs)
If you love audiobooks as much as I do, you'll probably find that you save money in the long run by paying for a subscription to audible or simplyaudiobooks. You'll pay a monthly fee (pricing depends on how many books you plan to download per month), but you save big over purchasing each title ala carte. You can also purchase audiobooks individually through audible, as well as through a variety of channels online, including iTunes and eMediaExpress.
2. Get a Kindle. Oh, the Kindle wireless reading device is a beautiful thing. Lighter than a paperback, thin as a magazine, and it holds some 1500 books. The new version, Kindle 2.0, will even read to you. It's kind of expensive ($359 at this time), but it's fabulous so if you read a lot, it might well be worth it.
3. Subscribe to PhilosophersNotes. If you love self-development titles but don't have a lot of time, give Philosopher's Notes a try. Creator Brian Johnson artfully distills his favorite and most life-changing books to a 6 page PDF and a 20 minute mp3 recording. At the time of this writing, you can get 52 notes (includes both the PDFs and mp3s) for $20, but Johnson is adding new notes all the time, so these details are subject to change. I find that these are great to listen to again and again.
4. Stash books everywhere. I have a book in my glovebox, and another by my bedside. I have a book near my stove and another near the couch. Some books are good enough that I take them everywhere. Others, I keep where I will enjoy them most. For example, I can't read Harry Potter right before bed or I end up dreaming about basilisks and Severus Snape, so I keep that where I can sneak in a few moments of reading during the day and keep something dreamy and inspirational by my bedside.
I hope you find lots of extra time to read the world's wonderful books.

Inspiring your child to read is one of the most important things that you can do as a parent. With a love of reading, your child will have a critical tool for success.
Here are six tips to help get your children to tune out the television and tune into books.
1. Really explore their interests.
Talk to your child's teacher about recommendations for books that would be particularly well-suited for your children and that might touch on current or future topics of classroom study. What authors have your children enjoyed in the past? If Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a hit, try James and the Giant Peach next.
If your children don't have any favorite books already, talk to them about their interests. Your child's imagination might be piqued by a biography about someone in the news. Or you can ask each of your children to pick a favorite non-fiction subject. If your son loves spiders, put that at the top of your reading list. If your daughter is fascinated by jungle creatures, make that the focus of your library trips. Even if you end up finding books about their favorite television or movie characters, it's better than no reading at all.
2. Take time to find the best reading material.
At the bookstore or library, allow your children to lead the way. Give them ample time to explore the sections that interest them. If they are drawn to comic books, strike a compromise. Let them pick out one comic book if they pick out another book with it as well. Guide them in their book choices based on what you learned about their interests. Make suggestions and see if you can encourage them to pick a wide variety of books, both nonfiction and fiction.
3. Set family reading time.
Instead of sitting down in front of the TV every night after dinner, establish a family reading hour. Turn off the TV and the radio and help your child read. If they are older, listen to them read to you. As your child grows, you'll look back fondly on this time that you shared together. Even as your children grow older, they really benefit from listening to stories read aloud. Reading together at the end of the day also provides you with a great opportunity to connect with your child at the end of a busy day.
4. Engage your child in reading.
Build their comprehension skills by asking them about what they've read. Get their input on the material and you'll be able to build their understanding of what reading is all about.
5. Encourage reading in other parts of your child's life.
Reading books isn't the only way that your child can get experience in reading. You can play games that involve reading and spelling, such as Scrabble or Balderdash. You can have them help you with day-to- day reading tasks, such as cooking and reading labels at the store. Whatever ways you can add reading into your children's life will go a long way in their reading development.
6. Set a good example.
Reading parents produce reading children. You can't expect your child to take an interest in reading if you don't read yourself. Make it a habit to read the newspaper or take up a novel now and then. If you make reading a family affair, your child will be more likely to follow suit.
As we know, videos, movies and music (before 2009) purchased from iTunes Store are copy-protected by Apple's DRM. Due to the DRM protection, you can only play and watch your iTunes purchases on Apple products like iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc. Sometimes you many want to remove iTunes DRM so that you can view iTunes media files on non-Apple programs or devices like HTC, Samsung, PSP, Zune, Xbox 360, Windows Media Player and more. Reading is one of America's biggest pastimes across all age groups. However, not everyone finds it easy to decide on what book to read next. Do you solely scan the New York Times Bestsellers' List and make your choice based upon it? What if the New York Times Bestsellers' List leaves you reading a book that you are bored of before you even finish it?
It may be difficult to determine which book would be the most interesting by reading the jacket of a book cover only. A summary will not speak about the plot, characters, twist except in vague terms. It is tough to measure the quality of a book by the author's summary. Instead, you may choose to read a few lines in a chapter; however, a few lines in a chapter is not adequate when attempting to grasp the content, level of excitement and whether the book is even worth reading or not. The best way to verify if a book is perfect fit for you or not is by reading a book review.
Movie goers utilize movie critiques, so why shouldn't a book reader use a book review?
Book reviews are detailed descriptions about the plot, characters and settings in a manner beyond the summary. A review may touch on the details of why a certain aspect in the book works and doesn't. A book review offers an opinion by someone that has already read the book and not found anywhere else. You shall receive several opinions on the same subject. One review may applaud a certain aspect while another may claim the same aspect is the biggest downfall of the book. The advantage to reading both conflicting reviews is you may take both opinions, absorb the review, and conclude if the book is worth your time or not. As a result, the book review becomes a guide when revealing the pros and cons of each book and should be used as such.
Another benefit to reading book reviews as a means of how to decide on a book is the various opinions. For book reviews are written by readers like you. Book reviews expand on why a reader likes or dislikes a portion of text. It presents information not known prior to reading making it easier to exercise if the book is suitable for you or not. The wide array of opinions is what aides you in formulating whether the book is your cup of tea or not. Readers from all walks of life are offering opinions and the more reviews you have the easier it is to decide on the book.
Furthermore, book ratings are insufficient grades for books. Book ratings do not explain the range of traits a book exhibits. It will not notate what successfully works, doesn't and why. It simply displays a grade.
The number one way to resolve your book electing dilemma is to read book reviews. Nothing is as thorough, and covers a true representation of the best and worst of the next book you are choosing to read than a book review.
A movie review is an article describing and evaluating a film. You can publish it on a website, blog, magazine or newspaper. It can also be part of scholarly work. In a movie review, you give your opinion on various aspects of a movie that you watched. Some instances need you to give a score (e.g 3 out of 5 stars). For other reviews, you need to give recommendations.
You can review any movie whether it is brilliant or boring. Any movie that people watch is worth a critique. It is important that you write a good a reader engaging review. Remember that some of them have not watched the movie and depend on you to know what it is about. You will write an outstanding review by doing the following:
Know the basics of film-making.
It is not a must for you to have experience in film-making but it is essential to have basic knowledge about the technicalities. Start to write a movie when you know something about sound, cinematography, lighting and film music. Knowledge of these aspects helps you to make informed comments. You increase your chances to write a good movie review if you have more knowledge about filmmaking craft. In addition to the idea, there are so many things that affecting a movie's quality. An idea could be good but you should know that the end product depends on how other people such as the actors and editors do their roles. Anyone can watch a movie and write a review but knowledge of technical matters will make a review better.
Use a strong lead
A well-written movie review should is informative. You should persuade and give an original opinion without giving away much of the plot. An excellent movie review is artistic in its own way. Watch the movie keenly and form an opinion. When writing about your opinion, start with a strong lead that attracts the attention of readers and interests them to keep on reading. You can achieve this through different approaches such as using a quote from the movie, compare it to a famous film, or refer to the brilliance of its director or starring actor. Write a short but powerful lead that shows whether the movie met your expectations.
Judge the story in a balanced way
Review actions of the characters and decide if they fit their roles well and if the motive is reasonable. Review about the consistency in the way everyone behaves and note if some actions or words seem false. Inform your reader whether the movie's story line is logical, economic, poor or outright pointless.
Rate the actors
Your review should rate the performance by the actors. If they are too many, rate the main ones. Let the reader know if the meet the expectation that the movie's plot and other elements dictate. A good review should include the reason for any shortcomings by the actors. You should write if it is a mistake by the actors, the director or the scriptwriter. You review will be more informative if you suggest what each person should have done better. Remember to also rate the technical matters as they also play a role.
Write for your target reader
Write your review with the reader in mind. Write a very balanced review if it is for readers of traditional publications. This does not mean you cannot condemn incompetence .Do not make it the entire subject. You can write more critical reviews when writing for modern platforms like movie review websites. However, you should back your criticism or compliment with valid observations.
A good review summarizes the movie but does not give the major elements away. It instead informs readers whether the movie meets expectations.

Veronica Lake is known for her peekaboo coif and mysterious allure in black and white film, but in the 1941 comedy Sullian's Travels, Lake shows that not only is she beautiful and worthy of vintage pin up posters fame, but can be satirical as well. Even the title, Sullivan's Travels, is a satire, playing on the title of the satirical self-examination journey Gulliver's Travels, by Jonathan Swift. Of course, in her first leading lady role in a film, Lake becomes the personification of the vintage pin up posters image that she would eventually become famous for.
The satire focuses on John L. Sullivan, a director struggling to find his way in Hollywood and make a socially conscious and revelant film for the masses, but eventually discovers that making a comedy would be more valuable to the decaying soceity surrounding him. He is just coming off the very profitable, but morally reprehensible comedies, and is hungry for a moral compass to direct. He creates the idea for a movie entitled O Brother, Where Art Thou? (The 2000 Cohen Brothers hit of the same name is a homage to the satirical movie Sullivan's Travel), as an exploration of the downtrodden. However, Sullivan's ideas are dismissed by his studio, and he refuses to give in to do yet another droll comedy.
Dressing like a homeless person, Sullivan sets out to discover just how the hobos live, to gain information and research for his latest film project. Yet, through a serious of misseps, Sullivan can never find the trouble and distuition he is aiming for, and ends right back in Hollywood. In one event, he meets a young actress, played by vintage pin up posters Girl Lake, and she becomes his companion in his misadventuress into downtroddenness.
Yet, Sullivan still hasn't experience trouble. Eventually he gives in and returns to Hollywood, where his studio publicly announces his travels. Good hearted Sullivan returns to the homeless area that welcomed him weeks before, and hands out 5 dollar bills to the men, as a thank you, only to finally receive the trouble he had been longing for. A bum decides to accoste Sullivan when they are alone and steal the money. However, the bum throws Sullivan on a boxcar, while standing on another set of train tracks. The bum is killed by an oncoming car, wearing the very shoes he had stolen off Sullivan. When Sullivan wakes up, he discovers that he has been murdered in the railway station. The only person who can correctly identify him is the Girl who joined him on his travels.
Sullivan's Travels explores the notino that more good can come from laughter than drama. Though a comedy, Veronica Lake's performance of The Girl garnered her higher status as a vintage pin up posters girl, with her long blonde hair, which coyly hung over her right eye. She showed that a lady can be funny, while being mysterious and sexy.
By 1990, Sullivan's Travel was finally received by the National Film Registry in the Library of Congress as a film for preservation, because of it cultural significance, a slice of irony since the film is about the struggle to find cultural significance in film.
Museums, libraries, and schools across the United States are continually researching new and effective ways to prevent water damage to ensure the longevity of rare and precious books and documents. Rare book rooms are commonplace in many major libraries and some museums and organizations are home to the most valuable, important pieces of literary history. Places like the American Bible Society's Rare Book and the Rare Book & Special Collections division of the Library of Congress house some of the most highly-valued first-edition books from throughout American history. It is vital for future generations that these collections are protected against water or mold damage.
Just as these rare books are important to posterity, each homeowner also keeps items they consider precious for their future family members. Things like family photo albums, family bibles and other books and documents could fall prey to water or mold damage if not properly stored or cleaned. There are things to consider when assessing the ability to salvage water damaged books as well as various methods for doing so.
The Extent of Water Damage
Water or mold damage, unfortunately can strike even the most prepared institutions. Broken plumbing pipes, natural disasters or broken ventilation systems can all lead to damaged books. Museums, libraries and schools try to understand the different types of drying techniques and how they affect certain composite materials in order to best save water damaged books when these problems happen. Water absorption depends on the age, condition, and material of the paper that has been damaged. Books published before 1840 will generally absorb much more water than currently printed books, therefore running a much higher risk of experiencing swelling or mold damage. Leather bound books of the 15 through 17 centuries can usually be restored using extremely controlled procedures. However, modern books typically use badly processed leather which makes water damage restoration nearly impossible.
Professional recovery service providers are the best at determining the precise extent of water damage your books have sustained and what drying technique is most appropriate. You can reduce the risk of permanent damage to a book collection, however, by taking a few steps immediately after the damage has been found.
Humidity is one of the main sources of book mold or water damage. It is important to keep your archives in a very cool, dry place to reduce the likelihood of mold outbreaks. If damage has already set in, open windows and doors and set up as many fans in the affected area as possible. This creates air flow in the area and reduces the amount of humidity. De-humidifiers are also a good option. Never open water-damaged books or separate individual sheets of paper as this may cause further damage that can be irreparable.
Consider Restoration Professionals
For most books, especially those of extreme importance, the salvaging and drying process should be done using a professional service. Book restoration specialists use technologies and drying techniques that are much more effective and far less damaging than basic do-it-yourself techniques. Two techniques are widely used and very effective. The desiccant air dry distribution systems lowers humidity in the drying area, allowing more of the water trapped in the book or document to evaporate. The vacuum-freeze drying system distribute pressure evenly around the drying book, reducing warp, maintaining the original look and feel of the books or documents, and ensuring that future damage does not set in.
Most attempts by individuals to dry damaged books themselves will result in warped or ruined products. By employing book restoration experts, books can be better handled and more closely be returned in nearly new conditions.
Water and mold damage can affect both prepared and unprepared institutions and home owners. Taking the time to understand how the damage has effected important materials, especially precious books, and incorporating the aid of professionals will ensure these items will be restored for future generations.

In October 2007, 25-year-old Houstonian Meghan Whitmore had her bank account drained by an unknown thief. It was a perfect case of identity fraud. Meghan saw thousands of dollars taken out of ATMs by someone using her account number and even her PIN - all while her card was in her wallet. Amazingly, almost exactly a year later, Carol Whitmore, Meg's mother, was also targeted by an identity thief who made fraudulent charges on her debit card. Oddly, the card was still in Whitmore's possession, just as her daughter's card had been. How did this happen? Is it just bad luck in the family? No. Identity theft has become so widespread that it can happen to anyone, and even seem to "strike twice".
How can the Whitmores - and anyone - protect their money? The key is to protect your whole identity - not just your name, but everything that makes you, you. Your account number, PIN, passwords, and your social security number can all be stolen by today's highly advanced identity thieves.
So, really, how could someone make ATM withdrawals or debit card purchases without even having the card in their possession? It's a clever scam known to thieves across the globe, but unfortunately, mostly unknown to the unsuspecting victims. British TV hit "The Real Hustle" exposes these tricks with real-life demonstrations, showing us how cons can steal our information, and what you can do to protect your identity.
The show calls the ATM card trick "Waitress Card Cloning," though of course it could be done by anyone in the service industry who handles your card during payment. Here's how the scam works:
In the example, a sweet-looking, friendly waitress serves a couple some coffee. When it comes time to settle the bill, the customer hands her his credit card, as we all so often do. Then the waitress, who is actually one of the show's professional con exposers, Jess, "accidentally" drops the credit card. As she picks it up, she swiftly swipes it through a hidden card reader in her pant leg (thieves also hide it in their pocket or apron). In an instant, that card reader has read the card's magnetic strip and copied the victim's personal information.
Then, as the "clumsy" Jess cheerfully hands the card back to the customer, she even sneaks a peek at his PIN number as he enters it into the legit card reader. You may think nobody could possibly see what your PIN is if you type it in quickly enough, but thieves are paying attention. Sometimes, they even have an accomplice in line behind you, or hovering nearby, to get a better look as you type your PIN in full view of anyone watching closely.
Most people aren't uncomfortable typing in their PINs. The idea is that without your card information, your PIN is useless, so if anyone saw you enter it, they couldn't do anything with it. But not in this scam. Now the criminals have both the information on your credit card and your PIN - everything they need to cause serious damage to your bank account and credit.
Once the thieves have your information, they can use it to make a duplicate card and start a crime spree. They can even sell your information to international crime syndicates, meaning "you" could be making purchases across the globe in Japan within 24 hours of the initial scam.
Fortunately, credit card companies and banks are catching on and are sympathetic to victims of this kind of scam. However, the feeling of violation, the headache of straightening out the situation, and the damage caused by such a scam can take a long time to recover from.
Tips to Protect Your Identity From Card Cloning Scams
* Put your hand over your PIN when entering it so that nobody can sneak a peek.
* Don't trust your waiter or waitress, no matter how nice they seem.
* Don't let anyone walk away with your credit card, claiming the card reader is "in the back."
* Always keep your credit card in sight. If you see something that looks suspiciously like a surreptitious swipe, do not be afraid to ask to see the manager.
* Examine your bank and credit statement closely and often -everyday if you have Internet banking capabilities. The instant you see fraudulent charges, alert your bank and cancel the card.
As easy as it is for some criminals to steal your information, it is just as easy to protect your identity. Make yourself aware of these common scams and remain constantly vigilant against such threats.
Everybody likes a freebie and that goes for users of computers too. Procuring these free programs usually means copying them from a disk given away with a computer magazine or downloading computer software off the Internet. Just what form of computer software you would like is up to you of course but you can get working copies of most kinds of software from the Net, if you look about hard enough.
Most people who want to download free computer software from the Internet are looking for utilities - utilities such as anti-virus software, anti-spyware utilities, firewalls, back-up programs and word processing utilities.
You can find many thousands of programs like these to download from the Net by typing 'free software' into Google or by going to download sites like download.com, tucows.com and majorgeeks.com, but there are dozens more of them as well.
These free software downloads come in a couple of different kinds. These are: freeware, shareware, time-limited usage and limited functionality programs. Freeware is literally free; the writer has put the software into the public domain for anyone to use free of charge.
Shareware is comparable, but you are expected to donate a contribution if you like the software or use it regularly. Sometimes shareware is time-bombed so that it ceases working after a month or a pop-up appears each hour after a month and occasionally nothing occurs at all or a couple of features will cease to work (like 'save' or 'send').
Time-limited usage software is usually a trial. In other words, you can use the full program, but it will switch itself off until you pay after a predetermined length of time. This is quite common with costly software. Some free software comes with limited functionality from day one, but you can use it for as long as you like. The complete version is available on payment.
There is another type of freeware which is an on-going worldwide product. Into this category falls such software as Firefox, OpenOffice, Wordpress and Opera. These are excellent top-grade products and are completely free of charge.
There are also free gaming web sites, although most of the better games are time-bombed for limited functionality or only work in demo mode, which means that you can just watch, you cannot take part. This is extremely annoying. If you spend an hour downloading a game merely to find that it is a demo version, so strive to find out first.
The other main category of free software on the Net is tutorials. You can find a free tutorial for virtually anything that you want to learn. The majority of free tutorials seem to be on aspects of using a computer like programming or editing HTML, but there are also free tutorials on using major-brand software; passing exams; needlework, gardening, and just about anything else too.
If you would like to start downloading computer software from the Internet free of charge, try some of the names I suggested or do a free search on Google.
A lot of paid surveys web sites are completely useless , as a matter of fact a walloping eighty-five percent of the internet sites that I have tested will take you a long time to reclaim the small expenditure you pay to join for the survey lists and you'll never be able to earn decent money from home with these sites that would allow you to do anything serious, like paying off your bills or saving for your next vacation. You can forget about quitting your job doing paid survey work as your chief source of revenue. It is a genuine disgrace that the world is so chock-full of dishonest people willing to scam honest hard working individuals like you and I out of our hard earned income.
As you sign up for the survey. They're going to expect you to give some background info like your age, net worth , how many household members, and your pursuits. They do this because they will send you surveys, based on your demographics. For instance they'll not send you a survey on pregnancy products, if you're a man. That's just a wacky example, but you get what I intend.
Nevertheless please notice that I did say "a lot these web sites", not all. I have been able to discover a couple of paid survey sites that work and can have you earning rewards from the comfort of your own home If you are able to develop your judgment about the outrageous claims made by these internet sites and screen their offers about bringing in up to $2000 a workweek and plan for a more honest amount of money, say five hundred dollars or other types of rewards, and then you'll wind up pleasantly amazed with what you receive. By completing surveys for well established companies, they will give you a lot of things such as hard cash or gift cards or an opportunity to win large prizes in a sweepstakes. Some survey websites have a point system where you fill out surveys and cash the points in for prizes or money. If you are looking to to bring in good money on the Internet, you should find survey sites that are compensating with actual money instead of points. Bear in mind that you will not get rich overnight by filling out paid surveys since the typical disbursement is only one to ten dollars, but it's a bang-up way to bring in cash online and it doesn't call for any skills or specialized knowledge on your part. Completing surveys is easy since most of the time it's multiple choice questions or one word response questions. So it's an amusing and easy way to make money.
It can take a lot of time and money for you to find some legitimate survey websites, so to alleviate you from wasting time or money, I chose to publish this article on the subject and show people my suggested websites that are guaranteed to work. One of the companies I really like is the National Brand Survey Panel. They offer surveys related to consumer brand choices for big name companies. Here are a few of their current surveys:
Ford or Chevy
Plain or Peanut M & M's
PC or Mac
JC Penney or Sears
What's your political party?
These are big companies and they value your opinion and will compensate you for your time. All that is required is an email address. So remember that when you are searching for a way earn some extra cash or rewards for paid survey work beware of the outrageous claims and look for a program that does not require money up front.
1. Set time. Spare some time every day to read for at least 5~10 minutes. For example, make it a habit to read during breakfast and lunch and even dinner if you eat alone. And you have more if you also read every time you're sitting on the can, and when you go to bed. That's a great start.
2. Always carry a book. Wherever you go, take a book with you. Make sure to check your driver license, your keys and your books every time you go out, at a minimum. If there is a time when you have to wait(like a doctor's office or at the DMV), whip out your book and read. Great way to pass the time.
3. Make a list. Keep a list of all the great books you want to read. You can keep this in your journal, in a pocket notebook, on your personal home page, on your personal wiki, wherever. Be sure to add to it whenever you hear about a good book, online or in person. Keep a running list, and cross out the ones you read.
4. Find a quiet place. Find a place in your home where you can sit in a comfortable chair and curl up with a good book without interruptions. There should be no television, computer, music, or noisy family members near the chair to minimize distractions. If you don't have a place like this, create one.
5. Reduce screen time. If you really want to read more, try cutting back on TV or Internet time. This may be difficult for many people. Still, every minute you reduce, you could use for reading. This could create hours of book reading time.
6. Read to your kid. If you have children, you must, must read to them. Find some great children' books, and read to them. At the same time, you're developing the reading habit in yourself while spending some quality time with your child as well.
7. Keep a log. Similar to the reading list, more than the title and author of the books, this log should have the dates you start and finish them if possible. Even better, put a mote next to each with your thoughts about the book. It is extremely satisfying to go back over the log after a couple of months to see all the great books you've read.
Ice Age 4: Continental Drift is a 2012 Hollywood 3D animated adventure/comedy movie directed by Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier. It was written by Jason Fuchs and Michael Berg, and features the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Jennifer Lopez, Keke Palmer, Peter Dinklage, Wanda Sykes, Drake and Nicki Minaj.
What do you do when a film franchise has run its course to such an extent that there's no way forward?
Simple. You take elements from popular films, try to make the story about something 'familial' and make one more film trying to inject life into the dead franchise even at the risk of drifting all the way into mediocrity and cliches.
This exactly seems to be the formula for the 'Ice Age' franchise with the latest part generously taking elements from other popular films even as it seems to forget the fun, emotions or even the ingenuity of the original.
In the end of the Paleozoic era, the super-continent Pangaea had begun breaking apart due to the acorn hunting habit of Scrat. Caught in the middle is the 'herd' of Manny and his family, Diego and Sid. As Sid is united with his crotchety grandmother, Manny separates from his wife and daughter.
Drifting on an iceberg, the trio and the grandmother are captured by a pirate captain. As they escape, a crazy and funny chase ensues.
'Ice Age 4' suffers from ambition - the ambition to exist. After two previous forgettable installations, the franchise should have come to an end. Sadly, the studio decided to give it one more run. Though they try their best, it isn't enough and the film drifts towards mediocrity and cliche ending on a whimper one was expecting all along.
The film puts together the usual theme of catastrophic global events and weaves together a lot of nice gags with the best and funniest being reserved for the exploits of our beloved Scrat. Though on their own the gags are funny, the problem is in the attempt to weave them into one coherent whole. In the absence of any real story, the film falls flat on its face.
The Ice Age Continental Drift Movie tries to redeem itself with the introduction of a goofy bunch of characters, led by a pirate chimp. But this 'hairy' spoof from The Pirates of The Caribbean series isn't enough to raise it high enough, despite introducing a love interest for Diego.
All in all, lot of precious funds were wasted in a film that need not have been made in the first place. Diehard fans, however, will love reliving the antics of their favourite characters.
Have I Backed Up My Portable Hard Drive?
The most important thing to consider when formatting your portable hard drive is whether you've backed up your data! Any other choice you make, short of dropping it in a garbage disposal, can be changed later on, but if you fail to perform a backup before you format, all information on the drive will be lost. Make sure to copy all of your files onto another drive before you start. This is not a consideration if you are formatting a new portable hard drive, as it is empty. Otherwise, always remember: BACK IT UP!
What Types of Computers Am I Going To Be Using?
One of the main benefits of a portable hard drive is its ability to be moved from one computer to another. This advantage needs to be considered when deciding how to best format your drive, because different types of computers support different file systems.
There are three major file systems to choose from: FAT32, NTFS, and HFS+
The following is a guideline to choose a file system that is compatible with all the different systems you will be using:
Windows 9x/ME - FAT32 (yes), NTFS (No), HFS+ (no)
Windows 2000 XP/Vista - FAT32 (yes), NTFS (yes), HFS+ (no)
Mac OS X - FAT32 (yes), NTFS (no), HFS+ (yes)
Linux - FAT32 (yes), NTFS (yes), HFS+ (yes)
Learn more about which portable hard drive is right for you by visiting http://www.iomagic.com/Products/show_all_results.asp?ProdID=I250HD35.
As you can see, some file systems are more portable than others. If you need to move files across many platforms, the FAT32 file system is your best choice. On the other hand, if you are only going to be using one type, you'll probably want to choose a file system that is specifically tailored to that type of system, due to performance and security issues.
What Kinds of Files Am I Going To Be Storing On My Portable Hard Drive?
You may decide to format in FAT32 because it is compatible across all the major platforms. Before you decide, you need to think about the types of files that you will be storing on your portable hard drive. FAT32 is very portable, but it has one major limitation: it can't hold files that are larger than 4GB. Because of this limitation, you may need to go with NTFS or HFS+ if you will be storing large files, such as video or backup image files.
Do I Need File Security?
Another thing to consider when preparing to format your portable hard drive is whether or not you need to secure your data. If your data is of a particularly sensitive or personal nature, you may want to choose a file system that provides file level security. If you use file level security only people with permission can access your files. NTFS & HFS+ both provide file level security, while FAT32 does not. Read more about portable hard drive benefits by checking out http://www.iomagic.com/Products/show_all_results.asp?ProdID=I1000HD35.
Should I Partition My Portable Hard Drive?
You may find yourself in a situation where you want to have two different file systems on the same drive. For instance, you may need to store large files, but still want to be able to use your portable hard drive on an older Windows machine. If this is the case for you, you may want to partition your portable hard drive into two or more parts and format one partition as FAT32 and the other as NTFS.
Let's face it. The tabloid magazines don't have a terrific reputation in the world of journalism. Yet they fly off the supermarket magazine racks like the proverbial hot cakes on Saturday morning's breakfast table. Some people actually subscribe to their favorite tabloid magazines, to avoid missing one juicy issue.
I once worked for a woman who subscribed to a number of them. When she was done with them, she brought them into her little country store and resold them, at half price, after she'd clipped those very special items she couldn't bear to part with, saving them for ...? The items she clipped seemed to have no particular theme, such as every little tidbit on any one celebrity, so it just seemed like a rather strange hobby. I'm not sure the reselling was entirely legal, but the locals would come in and snap them up. Talk about yesterday's news. She must have consumed them as soon as they hit her mailbox, because I noticed that some still bore the current week's date.
In any case, there's no question that tabloid magazines are hugely popular. While my former employer had no compunction about admitting her addiction, I'm sure there are regular readers who wouldn't ever admit to being fans. Hmm ... this does remind me of Katie Couric's interview question to Sarah Palin on her reading materials of choice. Is Ms. Palin one of these secret tabloid magazine readers? I'm sure we'll never know.
So what's the allure? What keeps these readers enthralled? There's got to be a gossip factor here. The usual front cover targets of the tabloids are celebrities and politicians. The topics typically involve some sort of scandal, rumor or terminal illness. If the article is unfavorable to the target, it's usually accompanied by the most unflattering photo the magazine can find in their files. If the piece is some report on someone's 'life and death struggle with name-your-disease', the photos are most likely a collection of pics of a flattering, heartwarming nature, designed to tug at the reader's heartstrings.
When you take a look at some of these articles, you wonder how these tabloid magazines stay ahead of the lawsuits. Many celebrities say it's not worth the effort, unless it's particularly slanderous or patently untrue. When you examine the rhetoric, these writers rely on clever phrasing and innuendo, which probably helps stave off lawsuits.
My thesaurus gives several synonyms for tabloid, among them, lurid, sultry and sensationalism, which does point towards the gossip factor. I'd say the average reader would never come across such juicy gossip in their own circle of friends. Unless they live in the 'Desperate Housewives' neighborhood. Can't you imagine how this content spices up the over-the-fence chat?
While the cover story may take up several pages of the issue, it needs to be filled out to make it worth the price. These fillers are stories such as a 1200 pound man who hasn't left his house in months, because he can't fit through the door, alien invasions, end of the world predictions and others in the same vein, the weirder, the better.
So how do I know so much about tabloid magazines? That woman I worked for would occasionally bring issues to give me, as sort of an employee perk. I admit to taking them home and reading them with my daughter. We did get a good laugh or three before they were relegated to service in getting a fire going in the wood stove. In addition to gossip, I can vouch for the entertainment value.
This true Slice of Americana Films confession of an independent movie producer on film financing and distribution is being exposed to readers that want to be in the entertainment business, are in the entertainment industry, or are curious about the entertainment scene that thrives outside of the heat of the celebrity spotlight. I am only one of a large group of growing independent movie producers that push to make films to stroke their creative fire and make a living. Making indie movies is both a frustrating and thrilling entertainment adventure.
One the most frustrating roles of any film producer comes down to finding film funding to produce an indie film with a cast that does not include at least A or B list celebrity. You are pitching film investors on a production written by new screenwriter that does not have Hollywood celebrities attached, and that is being visually helmed by a first time director or one that is not a household name yet. That can be a difficult pitch to movie investors. Society is fascinated with celebrity lifestyles and movie investors want to see A or B-list talent in their movie.
You can be armed with a fantastic screenplay, dynamic unknown actors, movie director with style, and your passion as an indie movie producer attached, but without sellable points for the project chances of securing film funding will not come to fruition. I have been in that spot as indie movie producer. How did I push past it?
Naturally, as an indie producer I was made aware quickly that without one A or B list star attached to a project I had to include scenes that any viewer could easily understand even without audio, so to speak. I turned up the sex, nudity, and violence because that always sells and it fit both the projects I was producing. The scripts were written to accurately portray human flaws, strong subject matters, and graphic content based on plots depicting characters living lurid and unsafe lives.
Whatever type of project you have there is going to come a point, unless you are independently wealthy, where you are going to be confronted as an independent movie producer that you are going to have to compromise on what will be show in order to get film investor backing. In one case I had an interested movie investor tell me flat out that she wanted the Sid Kali project to have a European film nudity flavor. She read the script and knew it well. The on-camera nudity and sex scenes should be tasteful, but hot in her opinion to appeal to an international audience of buyers and not only US viewers. I assured her that I would and she invested with her boyfriend.
The lesson learned is to always find different hooks for your movie that makes it attractive to the film investors you are pitching for funding. It could be a film investor is passionate about something that can easily be folded into the screenplay to appeal to them. Talented screenwriters, independent movie producers, and film directors are masters at being able to work in a plug or scene for specific investors. To me it is just like product placement done in major studio movies, but at the indie level it is a more personal pitch to individual movie investors.
Once an indie film producer secures film funding for a project there is a high that is indescribable. Each producer feels it different. For me that euphoria and rush quickly disappears because now it is time to fire up filming. You are already mentally drained from the exhausting money hunt and now all areas of physical production start. Next thing you know issues start to appear on location that can range from equipment issues to cast and crew friction. Now your mind is thinking, "I am in the shit!" As an indie movie producer it is your sole professional ass on the line for the cash invested to complete the film.
Actors and crew can quit anytime during an independent film shoot. There is nothing immediately you can do as a gutsy film producer if they are not committed to honoring their actor's agreement or crew agreement. This is not a studio production where you have the luxury of hiring an entertainment attorney to sue. The reality is there is not the time or money to go through that. Going to film investors that have bankrolled an indie movie to tell them production has shut down and you need more money to hire an entertainment attorney will end your career early.
An indie film producer is basically on their own to correct problems and make sure the move gets done no matter what hit the fan, unless they are dead. That is not the ego of a film producer's mind on display; it is a fact that they have to push on to finish the project. When things turn out golden you are a superstar to film investors, cast, and crew. When it goes to hell, you are a cockroach in the eyes of people. The adventure of an indie movie producer is not for people afraid of risk.
You are hands are now burning with a hot finished movie that needs a deal that leads to meaningful movie distribution. Digital movie distribution deals have indie movie producers buzzing. That is the direction that the show is going and how indie film producers will generate real revenue from their entertainment. Digital film distribution still is not a golden goose for indie produced content. Hollywood studios with deep cash pockets are trying to figure out how to make it for their big budget entertainment.
Like with any new technology you are going to have companies pop up that target independent movie producers. It makes sense. Without the talent and risk taking moxie of independent movie producers there is nothing for any distributor to sell outside of mainstream entertainment. Imagine how boring entertainment would be with only mainstream viewing choices.
This is where frustrating angst turns to the thrilling aspect of being an independent film producer at the best possible moment. DVD as a format is not dead, but is slowly being replaced. I view declining DVD sales as good news for indie movie producers. The film business reality is there are distributors that cater to indie entertainment that regularly screw producers over financially by using DVD manufacturing costs and marketing fees as their weapons during accounting for royalty statements. Not all indie distributors are like that, but one is too many. A majority are fair and honest with their accounting practices to pay producers.
But greedy piles, crooks, liars, and two-faced people exist in any business where money is to be made. Sadly, describes life in many ways too. Giving away films for free or being scammed by a movie distribution accounting on royalty payments is what kills indie movie producers. I read online that filmmaker Michael Moore is suing Harvey and Bob Weinstein, alleging that the two brothers used "classic Hollywood accounting tricks" to reduce his profits from his work. Only the people involved know the real truth, but you have to think if a successful millionaire film producer is worried about unfair royalty payment accounting practices, any indie movie producer better make sure they do not get taken advantage of.
The truly thrilling part of being an indie film producer at the right time, which is now, is that digital movie distribution is delivering indie entertainment to a global audience. This leads directly to increased viewers and increased money for indie produced content. Profit is not a bad word in my film producer's book. I am not independently rich or can afford not to turn a profit from the movies I produce. I view digital movie distribution as the most accounting transparent platform to distribute indie entertainment and generate money for film investors, as well as the content creators. These were the ramblings of indie film producer Sid Kali.
Information has always been power and that has not altered. Nowadays people may say that data is valuable, but the expression means the same. So, if your information or your data is so valuable, how can you keep it confidential? In other words, how can you safeguard yourself and your savings?
The Internet, viruses, scanners, chips, RFID, credit cards and spyware make the job very difficult, if a criminal wants to get access to your data. Regrettably, it is not good enough to hope that a data thief will not pick on you.
Your bank, your insurance company or the government may give your details to them by leaving them on trains, throwing them in skips or leaving them on hard drives in computers that they later sell secondhand on eBay. It occurs several times a year that we hear about, who knows how many times more?
So, what can you do? Well, there are quite a few things that you can do, but the problem is that most people will not apply them until it is too late, hoping that they will not be a victim of data snooping.
The first thing to do is to try to safeguard your data. That sounds obvious, but how do you go about it?
Let's start with your written name and address. You could notify your local council that you want to be taken off any lists that they give out to anybody that asks for them. Similarly, you can have your address taken of the junk mail lists and you can have your phone number taken off the junk phone mail list. Ask your local municipality how to do this.
You could buy things with a 'post restante' address at your local post office. If need be, explain why to the company you are buying from why you are doing that. Or you could have your post redirected from one address to another.
For example, if you have a lock-up address, use that address, but pay the post office to re-direct your mail to where you wake up every day. Another idea to try is to modify your name. Add in your middle initial, or your full middle name. Add the suffix 'senior' or 'junior' and keep notes. If you get junk mail with these names, you know who to complain to.
You computer probably contains a lot of sensitive data and you should take care of it, not least because some of that data will be the email addresses of your acquaintances and you do not want to introduce them to criminals, do you? Luckily, this form of protection is comparatively simple.
Make certain that you use a firewall and anti-virus software. Use the best you can afford. The best will cost about $50-60 a year. At $1 a week, it is not worth being stingy. You can get free software to do the task and some of it is pretty good, but how many times do you want to select the wrong one?
Then there is your purse. RFID tags are inserted in most ID cards and credit cards these days and they can be read by the thousands of RFID readers in hotels, hospitals, offices and shops. Think about shielding your wallet, bag or purse or wherever you keep your cards, so that they cannot be read by random RFID readers.

What is Job Scheduling and why is it so important to businesses and IT?
This article about job scheduling software discusses the importance of a job scheduler solution to businesses and IT organizations within an enterprise. Both questions, "What is job scheduling?" and "What is the history of job schedulers?" will be touched upon. Key differences and approaches to job scheduling will also be discussed.
Job Scheduling has been a critical element of the IT infrastructure for many years. Historically job scheduling has been referred to as 'batch processing', 'process scheduling', 'background processing' and, more recently, 'business process automation' and 'IT workload automation'.
The most important role of a job scheduling solution, or job scheduler, is to automate the management of IT tasks (jobs) that perform a specific type of job function. There are multiple business processes and tasks managed by a job scheduling solution. The most likely examples of processes that companies automate include: invoicing, payroll, updating account information, financial period-end close, and inventory updates. In most cases, the submission of the underlying IT tasks for any business process can typically be improved by a job scheduler.
What makes one job scheduler different from another?
The most basic form of job scheduling is a date and time based approach. A simple example would be to start process X at midnight every Saturday. This method proved to be sufficient for many years, as most businesses had a period during the day when all online activity was shut down. Batch processing and scheduling could be performed during the overnight period.
Today's globally connected economy demands 24/7 availability of systems. The window for batch processing has shrunk or disappeared altogether. Performing process and job scheduling activity exclusively on a date and time basis no longer meets the needs of a modern IT business infrastructure. A good number of job schedulers have not adapted to these new business demands.
An event-driven approach to job scheduling was pioneered to adapt to these new business demands. Event-driven job scheduling and business process automation that uses intelligent rules was introduced to ensure that batch processing is controlled and submitted under the correct business conditions, irrespective of time and date boundaries.
Building on the concept of events to chain job schedules together, successful programs have been developed to deliver a unique approach to job scheduling that supports the most demanding business environments. This software for workload automation has proved to be reliable, efficient to maximum benefit.
Riddick Movie Star Cast: Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Gerard Funk and Conrad Pla
Director: David Twohy
Complete with spacecrafts, animals and air-bikes in an arid alien planet, 'Riddick' is Vin Diesel's vulnerable and vain attempt to promote himself as a sci-fic action hero.
It's the story of the anti-hero, a notorious murderer and galactic fugitive Richard Riddick (Vin Diesel).
The film takes off with a vulture like creature circling the sky looking for its prey. And when bird swoops to get its booty, all of a sudden circumstantially, the predator becomes the prey. This introductory shot reveals the survival of the fittest.
From thence, the next thirty minutes trudge to expose Richard Riddick's endurance to survive in this barren wasteland, where he lands up after being deceived by Vaako (Karl Urban). He fends off attacks by stripped wild canines that resemble hyenas and fights carnivorous amphibians reminiscent of giant scorpions.
'Riddick' makes it out of the barren desert-like landscape after taming the aboriginal canine.
He eventually lands up and seeks refuge in an abandoned outpost. With no other way to escape the inhospitable planet, Riddick activates the beacon device, which alerts two groups of mercenaries.
First to arrive is Santana (Jordi Molla) and his ruffian cronies, who jointly possess more muscle than grey cells. Following them is Johns (Matt Nable) with his crew that includes Dahl (Katee Sackhoff), the only woman among the testosterone-fueled hunters.
Each group has their own plans for Riddick, but with time running out, the stakes are high. Fortunately, Riddick is as unconquerable and unrelenting as ever.
Director Twohy maintains a skillful command of the franchise's narrative template throughout, but misses the opportunity to effectively shade the characters' distinctive dimensionality.
There is abundant action and gore along with a bathing scene to entice the audience, but the narration drags. The pace of the film crawls. The mood and tone darkens as the film progresses. The dialogues that are far between, are sharp and yet redundant.
With great production design and background score, the film lacks visual appeal. The CGI effects are unremarkable and the landscape over a period of time along with the two breeds of animals that dominate the screen time, becomes an eyesore.
Of all the characters, Molla's performance as Santana stands out. Often cartoonish and even comical at times, he breathes the character. Nable as Johns is nothing extraordinary. Sackhoff as the lone woman attracts attention during the few scenes she is visible.
With Riddick as a lone avenging hero, Diesel seems determined and even desperate to convince audiences that he can deliver. But unfortunately, he could not do much to elevate the film. With his slow, muscle-flexing grumpy personality and a dragging narration, the film slumps.
Buzz Rating: 1.5/5
